Hello, I am looking to buy a new washer and dryer. I thought that it would be a simple task however it has become a complicated situation. I will be going back to 2006 as it has kind of contributed to my current train of thought.
2006 husband purchased a LG Tromm set. He paid a significant amount of money for it back then ($2700 CAD for the set). It worked ok I suppose although I experienced some issues with it that turned me off front loaders. First, the seal stank no matter what we did and it got to the point where the stench was transferring onto the clothes. Secondly, it did not rinse well at all, especially towels. There were occasions where I had to rinse 5-6 times. Third, it leaked and damaged our flooring. Laundry is on the main floor so the flooring did have to go. The set finally gave up the ghost in 2020 and I was elated to say the least. I thought simpler was better, and opted for the cheap Amana top loader with agitator set.
Having owned it for three years now, I can say that I am ok with it but there are some issues with it that are having me consider selling the set and going back to the front loader. First things first, it’s on the main floor and it’s really noisy. Second, clothes are quite wet when going into the dryer so the dryer is running forever, which is leading to a lot of our clothes wearing out faster . Third, it’s difficult to wash comforters and pillows in it. The blankets don’t move around, it’s like they are just suspended in water. Fourth, I like to wash in warm to hot. The Amana has a sensor that supposedly fills with the least amount of water and you’d be shocked at how often that feature doesn’t work. It will fill to the top more often than not hence using way more water than necessary which brings me to my fifth point. Because of how much water it uses, I feel like I use a lot more detergent.
If I opted for a front loader set, I would like one that rinses effectively, and has an internal water heater. We are a household of three with two cats. We always wash at a minimum of warm water and we all wear mostly easy to care for clothing. I wash all bed linens and towels on hot.
I was looking at Miele. The set is exorbitantly expensive in Canada, and service for them frankly sucks. I keep studying reviews and LG keeps coming back as highly rated. I’m reluctant to look at an LG again for obvious reasons. I am now suffering from decision paralysis and would love to hear your thoughts. I really apologize for the long post, but I figured the more info the better.
