I am looking for a washer and dryer. This is the first I ever purchased so I hope to get some feed back on the best top load and front load, in a price range that a normal hairstylist can afford haha! I was thinking Whirlpool Duet Sport as my mom has one but im not sure if the extra money for that versus a top load is worth it. I need something that can handle a queen size comforter. I would rather a front load as they are much more gentile on the clothes. Any recomendations? Thanks! :o)

If you're planning to wash large, bulky items (like comforters), I'd recommend a front-loader. They clean well, use less water and energy, and, as you pointed out, are usually very gentle on clothing.

Consumer Reports rates the Frigidaire GLTF2940 very highly, and its tub should be large enough to hold a queen-sized comforter. The price on that is around $650, compared to approximately $800 for the Whirlpool Duet Sport, which (I think) has a smaller tub.

Let us know which type and model you purchase! We're nosy that way. We love pictures, too.

In fact, here's one of the Frigidaire. The 2940 is also available at discount places like Best Buy, Lowes, etc., although it will probably have other letters preceding the number 2940. Note that Consumer Reports rates this model higher than the more expensive Frigidaire Affinity front-loaders.

well im heading to Best Buy and Sears too see what they have. I think that I am going to go with a front load washer. Is a Kenmore better than the Frigidaire, or are they about the same?? What is the deal with front loaders vs the top load with no agitator? Like the Cabrio??

Duet Sport!

We have a Duet Sport and it's a great washing machine! I would highly reccomend it. It was only $600 dollars, which is a great price for a FL. I would go with Kenmore or Whirlpool (same) just because of bad experience with Frigidaire's FL's (BEARINGS), but I think they have improved on them...

Several people here have the new 'impeller' top-loaders. I find them interesting, but wouldn't have one as my only washer. They aren't as water-efficient as a FL'er, nor am I sold on their wash action.

I think you'd be fine with any Kenmore or Frigidaire FL'er. If you can afford one, I'd go with the full-size Kenmore Hettie or Whirlpool Duet. But if you're looking for something without four digits in the price tag, I'd go with the Frigidaire.

I have a Frigidaire FL'er with a 3.1 cu. ft. tub. I stuff a queen-size comforter into it with good results. The Frigidaire 2940 uses less water than my machine.

Here's a picture of my laundry room lineup. The TL'er is a 2006 Frigidaire. I bought it for the old-school Franklin transmission, which makes the tub index during agitation. There are three videos of it in action at YouTube (search 2006 Frigidaire Washer). While it's a fun washer to watch, I definitely do not recommend one as your only washer.

Got a question...

What model number is the front loader with the top mounted controls.. Almost reminds me of our old NeptuneFl. I like that styling better than anything else. Is it still produced?

New Washer

Well I finally decided on a new washer and dryer. It is the Whirlpool Cabrio Washer model #WTW6400SW and Dryer is #WED6400SW. Sears gave me a hell of a deal if I opened a sears card. Its around $1600 for both so I didnt find that to be horribly bad although im paying $145.00/month and I really didnt need another credit card but oh well. They are bringing them Monday im totally excited. Oh I also got a new Shop Vac too so I had a really good shopping Day haha!!

Let us know...

I sell the Maytag Bravos (same thing). Can you use your Cabrio for a while and then let us know what you think? I'll wait with baited breath :)

Cabrio

I sure will. I cant wait to get them. I already went through the house gathering up everthing that I can wash on Monday and I started cleaning the basement. We moved in 6 months ago and I havent touched it so I figured no time better than now to do it. So whats the opinions on the HE laundry soap? Do I realy need to use it or can I use regular Tide or Gain?? Im so excited YAY!!!

Lid Lock

After looking at it at Sears an online I noticed it had a lid lock, how can I override the lid lock so I can see the wash cycle??

UhOh

Well that sucks. Im still going to try them out, maybe they have made improvements?? I hope they did. I will let you know first hand what I think of them!! :o)
