I ask the same question about why does everything cost twice the price in the UK as it does in the US? Quick example, a Bose Waveradio in the UK is £500.00, I find it on US website for £250.00? Really empathise with you mate. You feel that you are shafted and I live in Rip Off Britain. Makes me V V ANGRY

~I ask the same question about why does everything cost twice the price in the UK as it does in the US?

Quality?

VAT?
Some European countries have a value-added tax. Basically in the USA the government takes about 1/3 of our pay off the top of what is earned [GROSS funds]as income taxes....to fund unpopular/unwanted wars and feed those that don't want to work, but I digress. We are left with NET funds.

My understanding is that income taxes in effect are built in to the prices (on the retail level)in many European countries.

My Greek realtives came to America and while were visiting bought a German washing machine and shipped it back to Greece. Of course it was *cough* "lightly used" for duty and fee purposes. They paid a NET price with GROSS wages, which made shippings costs appear minimal and the machine was still a great bargain to them.

With a VAT system all aspects of the cash economy appear to be taxed. Here other than a small sales tax (usually leadd than 10%)on a state or local level, the underground cash economy doesn't pay taxes. This attracts many skilled blue-collar tradesmen to this country.

It is diffcult to compare prices accurately across countries with very different tax and social structures.

There are price variatiosn even within this country itself. In my area housing and energy and taxes are high but in Gasget Gary's area those things are relativley less expesnive and food and clothing cost more. (inland land-locked location with no port....all is by truck. [lorry/lorrie (sp)?] In my area wages and job-opportunities are greater as well. Realtive purchasing power ("disposable income")is not always so easy to measure.

IGNIS! The pix-- in the pink section/forum

In this thread we see:

Post# 237453-9/20/2007-06:37 ||| dj-gabriele (Bologna (ITALY))

Diomede, have a look at this, the USA actually have something like that! Staber produces a washer that is just like you IGNIS , have a look at their website! I think that it's the only firm that still has this kind of washing machine.
Thw drum rotates left and righ and is loaded from the top, opposed to the "usual" top loaders we see around in Europe. Have a look!
Anyway I believe that at STABER they're all thieves, the least expensive model costs around 1,300 dollars! That's 1,000 euros for a washer I can buy for 350 euros in any store!

Perhaps as a specialty item, this is not a fair comparison!

Toggleswitch: around 30% of all washers in Italy are top loader horizontal axis, and they outperform that machines by far and cost much less!
The most expensive TLHA washer we have in Italy is Miele W257F and is around 1100 euros, it's full featured and has double spin speed than the Staber, A+ energy, A washing, A spinning, using inbuilt heater it uses 0,93 KWh and only 47 litres of water. Miele is expensive (too much if you ask me) but is cheaper if you compare characteristics.
If you get upper end Italian made machine, Smeg STL120, it costs around 620 euros, and has the same characteristics as the Miele, the only difference it spins at 1200 rpm istead of 1300. Quite a bargain, eh?
Even a washer dryer combo (still top loading), San Giorgio Ghiblia SGLA 7120, is cheaper being "only" 790 euros!
You can get all the infos on www.kelkoo.it

But why did you post this on another thread?

I MUST desagree with you... i think exatelly the opposit...
USA have the bestest washers of the world. The most effiient, most reliable, and a lot more.... the brazilian washers only have design....they are cute, and just it! would you like an washer that takes 1 and a half hour to wash a load of clothes? but the avarege cycle has this duration! ok, i know that here in brazil the problem isn't the washers, but the quality of our soap, that only clean the clothes if they stay on soak for some time! besides, the brazilian washers brokes so easily and costs a lot to repair!
to finish, the don't have entrance to hot water and most of them only washs with cold wather, but it is commun here in brazil, couse we aren't used to use hot water... some washers (the electrolux shown in the pic above is one of this) have an internal heather that heats it's own water, but it takes too much energy and the few people that have washers with heating system don't use it!

ah, i can't forget to mention that here in brazil almost no one have dryer, so almost everybody line dryes the clothes and iron it after...

Oh well, then I too must say that in Italy you can't find a dryer for less than 450 euros, when in UK they start at 250 euros, mean it, I already converted from pound sterling!
I think that every nation has its high and low prices for everything.

Mr. Bestcleaning washer, how come none of your Youtube videos have sound? I'd love to know how these washers sound.

hmmmm

Maybe I stand corrected.

Vinicius - Our washers can live a long time if you take care on. Bearing always break and IT IS NOT EXCLUSIVE ON BRAZILLIAN WASHERS. My machines never break because I use correctly.
Obrigado

And to toggleswitch, the Staber washing machines clean so well. They can whiten yellowed out whites on 1 ounce of detergent and bleach! However, the company is indeed very greedy. the company only sell the washer online and for 1,300 dollars when it would only cost about 350 dollars in stores. Also, if the machine breaks down, they have NO costomer service and want YOU to fix it ordering expensive parts off thier site!

They are not about to give anything away to feed anyone'

~However, the company is indeed very greedy.
~When it would only cost about 350 dollars in stores.

And we know this HOW?
And we assume this based on what?

Sorry but without your age, first name and gender in your profile, I simple can't put forth the effort to respond to statements such as these which appear to be more emotionally, rather than logically, based.

If their sales volume is low, they may require a high mark-up to cover their fixed costs such as overhead, rent, taxes, R&D and their founder's Mercedes or Cadillac SUV.

Electrolux 12 kg is not High efficiency washer becase use a lot of water and soap. Have the most complicated panel of the world and the programs are inespecificals!
Brastemp and GE Brazilian washer are good because it's ease to use and the results are incredibles. GE is delicate and broke easily. Brastemp it's my favorite and more tradicional on Brazil, I think is the best washer but the price is expensive. Ge washer are new and the results are catastrofic. Electrolux is "so so"... if you have good lucky electrolux is good... ehheheeh
