New washing machine! A Miele W 3922 WPS

After much deliberation we have ordered this machine. Seems to be popular since three members already have it haha! I chose this machine because i wanted a more traditional looking machine with the good ol chrome door. Also liked the range of programmes. I should use most of them! Waiting for the phone call from the company to arrange a delivery time. Hopefully should have it by the end of the week.

So what are people experiences with Mieles, and did any members install them themselves? How easy was it?

Installing a Miele's not any more difficult than installing any other European washing machine.

Remove packing and transit bolts.
Connect up water hose to cold water supply
Put drain hose into stand pipe.
Turn on, check for leaks.
Plug in ...
and you're ready to wash...

The only thing I would say is that they're exceptionally heavy machines. Get a 2nd person to help you if at all possible.

They weigh in at around 93 to 98kg (aprox 14 to 16 stone!)
(205lbs to 216lbs)

Hey!! Congrats on ordering your Miele!! Its a great machine! Funnily enough mine is 3 weeks old today!! Ive used quite a few of the cycle so far and theyve all been amazing! You'll also find that no two cycles are the same, even if you use the same cycle as it varies what it does so much depending on what your washing! We had to wait a few weeks for ours though as it had to be ordered from Germany so do be patient! Not that I can talk though, I was going up the wall waiting for it LOL!!

To install it you'll definatley need two or more people, this one weighs 98kg when packaged up and just a fraction less when un packaged! It was very difficult to move! Also remember that the water inlet hose is different on these models as it has the Water-Proof system, where it connects to the water tap, there is a rather large electrical box on the end of it ( which senses the leaks e.t.c) I had no trouble fitting it although you may want to make sure you have enough clearence to make the you can connect it without the box getting in the way, which Im sure it wont as its deisnged in such a way that it can be facing away from the pipe work as to not get in the way of the connection!

Good luck with the machine im sure you'll love it! And remember to be patient haha, they seem to take a while to come but its worth the wait!!

Well, according to the people were getting it from they'll pop it in place but not connect anything. So hopefully i can just tilt it up for leveling. The water pipe is off to the side of it and there is no units beside it so it should be okay! If needs be i can wait till the other half comes home when it arrives! I'm not too bothered about when its coming unless its in a months time, go on holiday to New York! I plan on doing all the holiday washing in it.

Thanks for the photo Richard! There going to phone on Monday with delivery dates etc. Was going to put off posting until i knew when it was coming but excitement got the better of me. I have you to thank in a roundabout way for it too. My partner was wanting to go for the W446WPS but i didn't. When you posted the photos of yours he realised it looked great haha!

I'll take photos of it all no doubt. Its like getting a new member of the family! ;-)

Ah your welcome for the info on! You'll be thankfull if they un pack it for you because there not packaged up like normal machines LOL! The delivery guys had to unpack ours before it got to the kitchen, because the packaging is so big it couldnt fit through the kitchen door with it on haha! Never happened before on any other machine hehe! So I was quite greatfull when they left it in the middle of the kitchen unpacked ready for me to connect LOL!

I ran its first maintinence wash with it out of its space though to check for leaks on my pipes e.t.c, I didnt fancy having to pull it out again just because I havent screwed the pipe in tightly enough LOl! I also did it to make sure the standpipe could cope with the water being pumped out, as they pump out exceptionally quickly! To break it down it can drain water from half way up the door in under 30 seconds! Quite shocking to watch hehe

Actually it can be worth while ensuring that the hose is well inserted into the stand pipe and preferably tied in where possible with a piece of wire or string. Miele drain hoses are also fractionally wider than your typical washing machine. They will fit into a standard stand pipe though without any issue.

As the previous poster said, they can really spew out a LOT of water very quickly. So, just make sure to test everything before pushing the machine into place as it can occasionally overwhelm the drain, particurly if there's a slow running U bend.

Thanks, i'll bear that in mind! I never would have thought to check the drainage. I was just going to leap straight into cotton 60 wash haha. Just now the washing machine drains in to the sink. Its your average 80s double sink with a tiny basin and a larger one. I'm guessing the machine will need to go into the larger sink. Really need to get around to sorting out the stand pipe for the washing machine! Maybe this will get me to do it haha

You can get the U-bend on the smaller basin changed for one with a spigot connection on the side. The Miele drain hose can be directly connected to this.
It's something you can do yourself quite easily, but you might want to get a plumber if you're not comfortable replacing the trap

Make sure that the Miele Washing Machine hose is hooked in such a way that the water is running downwards into the trap. (See image) This prevents the risk of any dirty water from your sink running into the washing machine.

In general, Miele machines are very easy to hook up to any sort of plumbing as they have an anti-syphoning system built into the machine.

Also, if your machine's drain hose is too short, they can be extended, but consult your washing machine instruction book carefully as there is usually a maximum length that the pump can comfortably handle.

Miele also have a "duodrain" pump which can be installed if you need to run the pipe over a certain head height. This is not required for any standard installation up to pretty much sink height, but it allows the machine to pump out of basement areas to ground floor level for example.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try and get something sorted because i know its a simple thing to do. Just need to get out and get the parts.

Just found out today that the machine is en route from Germany and should be here a week on Wednesday. I'm off the friday but i'm going to try to get the Wednesday off so i can get it as soon as possible!

Great! I'm glad theyve given you a delivery date! It always makes the wait that much better when you know exactly when its coming! ( Or is that just me lol) I was a bit gutted when they finally called to tell us when it would be delivered, I was thinking it would be much sooner but ended up being a week and a half later haha! But overall its definatley worth the wait! I actually cant' fault mine, ask anyone i'm the first to pick a fault with something, esspecially when it comes to washing machines LOL!

The Miele just seems to plough through anything I wash in it effortlessly!

by the way, I agree it would be a good idea to get the waste pipe plumbed in properly, Im not to sure how a sink would cope with the speed that they drain out at!

Let us now when you get it and how your getting on! Im sure you'll love it! allbeit an expensive machine, but these days I believe in the saying " you get what you pay for"!

Thank you! Yeah, times are tight up north as well. I had been saving up for years for a washing machine though, finally talked my other half into getting it hehe.

Thanks guys! Waffles is a real charmer so he is. The other one cut his paw so he was feeling sorry for himself!

Having used cottons, woollens and minimum iron i can say that the results are great! The clothes are coming out softer which leads me to believe that the 2 rinses in the Miele are better than 4 in the old whirlpool! Amazing!

I also like the way the machine handles imbalances. It will spin a burst no matter how bad it is (I think!) and balance for the longer spins.

Also can't get over how quiet it is. A load of towels went a bit unbalanced at 1600 rpm and you could hear the noise of the drum swaying but it was muffled. I can start washing late at night again! Woo hoo!

I've said to my self two more loads tonight max! Think the last load will be the pillows i've been sitting on all day haha!
