New Whirlpool Front-loaders: Proceed With Caution (Model 6620)

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Jerrod, it purposely does the longer pause between rotations as a means to be gentler on the color fabrics. If I had to utilize colors cycle for its cold water, I'd just use the cold water wash--how to wash cycle. Maybe bulky items, my current bulky items is a medium speed tumble. I couldn't see this colors cycle being used for denims.

UPDATE: Well, they had a few trouble-free weeks, anyway. Yesterday, my neighbors' Whirlpool front-loader started leaking again. It's leaking about the same amount of water and the front of the bulk detergent dispensing drawer is full of water, so I'm guessing it's the bellows again.

I bump into one or the other fairly frequently because I tend to wash a load every other day or two, as do they. I've never seen them overload or abuse the washer in any way.

So, their beautiful washer is surrounded with rolled up bath towels again. Megan was almost in tears yesterday-- whether from frustration or anger, I'm not sure--when she was mopping up the mess in our laundry area. Some water even dripped down the holes drilled in the floor for the water pipes, so she had to go downstairs to that laundry/hallway pass-through and mop, as well.

Yes; the same dealer sells Whirlpool, Maytag (I bought my beloved 2015 Maxima pair from him), KitchenAid, Amana and Estate. He used to also sell Frigidaire and Samsung, but dropped them—Frigidaire because they were no longer competitive price-wise, and Samsung because parts took forever to arrive and were sometimes no longer available after just a couple of years.

The other dealer in town handles GE, LG—appliances and TVs—and Speed Queen.

I'm wondering if he's seeing the same problem(s) with the Maytag version.

I will add my former boss has the same model as your neighbor and hasn't reported any issues to me. and believe me, she would.

Whirlpool f/l

I bought a new Whirlpool Duet pair in late 2009, top of the line models. Generally very satisfactory, I especially like the fact that the washer is one of the last ones to offer a warm rinse option. I ran into difficulty with the final spin, which sometimes would work fine (1250 rpm) and at other times would loaf along at half-speed, after going through load distribution protocols for no reason. I replaced the water level control a few years ago, also the main control unit, tried a new motor control unit (didn't work at all), new user interface (didn't work at all). Whirlpool was no help at all (local dealer allowed me to use their shop number to talk to a Whirlpool engineer, who seemed completely clueless). Finally resigned myself to occasional spin issues, the rest of the time it works great.

I doubt I will ever buy Whirlpool again; they just don't seem to be as concerned with quality and customer service as they once were. Does anyone have feedback on the Electrolux full-size front loaders?

If I had one of these bad 6620s, I'd be contacting every consumer watchdog group and working my way up the chain of command at Whirlpool to get a full refund.    The neighbors' machine may be under warranty, but it has been inconveniencing them far too much (even once is too much so early on).  No one should have to deal with failures of any kind after just a few months.

I guess I'll be trying to keep my Neptune stacked pair running for as long as parts and service continue to be available.  Modern day home laundering equipment is downright disturbing to imagine owning -- other than an overpriced SQ FL.

Is this just how it is with Whirlpool? Are they known to release new products that are buggy like when a car is redesigned and a new generation is released? Should you wait a few years once they release a new model for them to work out the issues?
