hi i am a new guy. a UK GUy no less.
great website, what ive been looking for, for ages!
i want to know more about the servis quartz and the purple hotpoints. you guys got me well excited. these are my dream machines, my grandparents had the 1983 quartz but gave it away in 95 when they had kitchen re fit. the fools.
never seen a purple hotpoint in action. was it noisier than the hoover logic? how did the noise and sounds compare?
i know the logic sound inside out.

hey there!
welcome! Nice to see another UK member! i have a servis quartz & a hoover logic. the purple hotpoints were noisier than the logics. i used to own a purple door hotpoint & now finally own a hoover logic which i love to bits. its out of action at the moment though.

what machine do you have?

once again welcome & hope you enjoy the club!

Darren

Hi and welcome!

The "Purple" range from Hotpoint was the Liberator range which came out in the late 1970s.
I have attached a picture of a Liberator dryer I had (Now being cared for by Mike)

Welcome!!!

Hi Nick

You`ve certainly found the right place, lots of pics and vids and a wealth of information from the members...

The Purple Hotpoints are a treat for any kitchen, provides that extra splash of colour....and a very noisy motor...a high powered whine, rather like the keymatic I posted...

The whole 70`s range where all purple n white co-ordinated.

distribution spin - mid rinse!!!!

almost blew the speakers on the laptop!!!!!!

Good memories though... I had one of the later grey models with the full front door opening and usual timer. Flippin' noisy, but had fab DEEP rinses!!!!

Is the glass in the door purple? Mark, what is that thing at the back of the dryer drum with the square openings? Is it a reflection or is that where the air flows through? You mention the 70s range. Do you mean the 1970s or do you mean a line of models from Hotpoint that were designated with 70 like Sears Kenmore washers and dryers used numbers like 70 or 700, 80 or 800 to show that models with lower numbers had fewer features than models with higher numbers. I am sorry if this question is confusing. Maybe Mike can explain what I am asking since he has seen pages from Sears catalogs. Thanks to all in the U.K. for the pictures. That was some modern design with the burple purple color scheme.

Purple!!

Hi Tom

Yes the doors where purple and the controls where shades of, starting deep then going to white, these where manufactured by Hotpernt!! in the 1970`s...

The dryer (and most UK dryers,) used the "Halo of Heat" method, so the back of the drum houses the suction fan and usually a removable lint filter etc...

The Hotpoints where unusual in that they had a dark grey polypropelyne drum, which according to the marketing blurb, had better heat retaining qualities etc, and didnt get scratched like stainless steel etc., these vented straight out of the back, usually a 2kw heater with a high airflow.

Heres a pic of the Hoover with similar rear vent etc..Its just like the Maytags I think!!
