NIB Maytag Wringer Rollers

For those who own wringer machines, maybe to keep as back stock?

Those are a little HIGH priced, don'tcha think?

I do have a very early Maytag wringer here which I believe is a 1930 model, and was originally gasoline powered. It needs rollers for the wringer due to a flat spot that developed because of not releasing the pressure before storing - typical.

Does anyone have spare rollers for those old Maytags?
Perhaps 145.00 a pair is reasonable and i'm just not in the know.

Balloon rollers?

When did Maytag use the air-filled 'balloon' rollers? Looks like those for sale are solid and the logo on the wrappers appears to be newer, rather than older.

Geoff will know for sure, but I think the balloon rollers were only used on a couple of the BOL economy models.

Greg is right; two black top rollers were used on the NX model. It was more a "gimmick" to get the homemaker to upgrade to a model that had the hard bottom roller and softer top roller.

These rollers were not air filled but were solid. The balloon description comes from their softness. The bottom roller on Bob's machine above is softer, or more "squishy" than the harder bottom roller on eBay.

The rollers on Bob's machine were designed to save buttons and snaps and buckles, etc.; items that were getting damaged from wringer rollers at the time. Over time, Maytag changed the rollers again and made them both firmer so more water would come out of the garments and still protect the buttons, etc. When Bob's washer was made, there were no "at home" clothes dryers; only clotheslines.

Bob ... I'm afraid these rollers on eBay won't work on your nice old machine. They are a bit wider than the rollers you have and the bottom roller on your machine does not have the spline like these do. These look like they would fit a Model E or a Model J.

HOWEVER ... I did "force" an upper roller from a Model E on to my Model 30 and it works fine! Maybe you could look around for a used upper roller?

Is it the upper or lower roller that has flattened out?

Is that a Model 30?

I have a Model A that was made in 1930.

tell me where to look

I have yet to properly locate the model information on mine - it was recently (thank you southernmdGEguy ) given to me and although I've run it once I have yet to clean the old girl and find the model number.

I hope to just clean it and wax it and leave it with all the original patina basically intact. One day perhaps the original engine will turn up, or a suitable replacement, and that'll be a hoot.

I think maybe both rollers may be flat at one spot, Jeff, and it certain does look identical to yours.

If you give me the serial number off the front of the tub on the crown, I can get you a year and model number.

I'm thinking you have an early 1930's model 30.

The base was changed with the model 30 and would have been able to accomodate a multi-motor Maytag engine.

Bobby, I have the exact same wringer; my rollers are both white. I never use the grey ghost. I have issues with it and it has issues with me. If you want the rollers, they're yours for the asking.
