Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I had this same exact machine, only lasted about 5 years. It had the bearing and hub go and I’ve junked it and a got used direct drive Maytag Centennial MVWC500VW1.

And since it had a bad bearing I wasn’t going to put a hub on it I decided that it was ready to go.

I was originally going to buy a Speed Queen but I decided to get a used direct drive instead due to their much cheaper price.

Yes, Whirlpool made direct drives for Maytag for a brief period. Mine even has the stainless steel drum (which I like over porcelain). I think I remember maybe a Kenmore model using this drum based on what I looked at but I don’t think any branded Whirlpool had this drum. It’s a very late model

As an appliance technician I probably repair VMWs every day. Suspension rods seem most common I (just did suspension rod replacement on a Whirlpool WTW4800XQ4 earlier today and some other models I don’t remember). Didn’t get any with bad gearcases today. It’s a very late direct drive (made on 13th week of 2009), so it was made right before Whirlpool started making VMWs. I got it used off because it was cheap and they said it worked perfectly, and they were correct. This washer should last me a very long time just like the 1990s Kenmore I had before the VMW. The Kenmore broke in 2019 and I got a VMW which was a mistake.

We found that the last few years of the full size direct drive machines had a lot of problems, a lot of problems with water in the gear case center post bearings they had cheapened up the direct drive machine so much that they do not last like the machines they made a decade earlier. Everything was so cheap and Tiny they tended to be pretty noisy as well.
