Nice green Maytag

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I think the pilot lights were on center dial Maytags at least until the mid 70's. I can remember them on the display models in appliance stores. This washer is probably a later 60s to early 70s model. The dial is white, which indicates it is pre 08 series. I believe 1972 was the first year of the plastic-like knob. This has the older style. What years were avacado green a Maytag color? Nice washer. I wish they had posted some interior pictures.

Have a good one,
James

Pilot Light

I bought a new 1995 Maytag that had a pilot light for the soak cycle, off to the side,to let you know you had a soak load sitting. Did the older pilot lights perform the same function, or was it just a light that told you the machine was still on, like you wouldn't know?

As I remember from my mom and my (late) grandmother's '69 and '73 606's, the light actually stayed on, even if the machine was off. You either lifted the lid (the safety switch would shut it off), or, push in the timer knob. I also rememebr my grandmother's Maytag had a timer that would "click" when it advanced; the timer on my mom's didn't...

When did Maytag cease the use of that chrome strip at the top of the front cover?

I've got a an older DE-806 dryer with that chrome strip and I'm trying to find the matching 806 washer from the same time period. Thanks!

Chrome Strip:

The little chrome divider on 806's is there because the glass in the lighted backguard is in two pieces; the divider covers the join. Lower-series machines without lighted controls didn't have that. This situation continued for as long as centre-dial machines were made, I believe.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong! Not that anyone ever hesitates here, LOL. ;-)

Maytag chrome strip

I have several Maytag 806 washers and dryers and it seems to that the front chrome strip along with the chrome ring lint filter were only made for a year or so on the early Maytag Models. I only have a few machines that have what i call the dress package from the early 60`s .I am sure maytag did away with these items early on as a cost savings to the company
