nice !!!

could be a HOBART, hard to tell, but identical to mine which IS a hobart, but even a year or two after WP took over in '86 they still made them with 1/2 hp motors ........... nice machine, I have one in my kitchen and it cleans ANYTHING, even totally burnt on food comes off, best cleaning DW I have EVER used.

Greg, does your top rack have that lowered area in the middle of the top rack rim that can be used as a "handle"? If yours doesn't, I believe those were for newer KAs.

I actually just answered my own question. This is a 22 series. I downloaded an imperial 21` owner manual & it had the totally straight across top rack front rail where as the 22 had the "lowered indention".

Custom 21

I have a custom 21 that I have used for parts.
This is the last of the Hobart - cabinet machines.
Everything else is Whirlpool.
The clincher is the reversing motor to drain.
Hobart machines never had a reversing motor to drain.
This was Whirlpool's design.
When Whirlpool first took over the Hobart's, they kept many things the same. They did however change the pump.
This is a great machine, but it is really a whirlpool design as far as the pump to wash, and to drain, this was all Whirlpool. It is a great pump and cleaning system. It has not changed all the much since then with Kitchenaid or Whirlpool machines of today.
It has a fan to dry, but is not a heater box like the original Hobart machines. It is only a fan. The large heater element in the dishwasher is on to dry, while the fan blows the heat and the moisture out of the tub.
This is a great dishwasher, but is not a Hobart pump or dry system like the originals.
I know that they have "Hobart" on the ID tag, but the only thing that is Hobart like is the cabinet and Inside of the dishwasher.
Whirlpool was the owner of Kitchenaid at this point.
I am using a KDS24 that is a "Kitchenaid Superba Whisper Quiet" with Stainless Steel interior. It is an awesome machine! It is however, all and all, a Whirlpool design.
It does have the hydrosweep for the main wash arm, and will clean anything!

Actually the reversing motor design was originated by Hobart on the KD-20A series c. 1983 and continued through the 22 series, almost ten years after the WP acquisition. Only on the 23 series, which was still fundamentally of Hobart's design, did they change the pump to Whirlpool's PowerClean design. And then it was quite altered from the WP version, in that it had a 1/2 hp motor and the top had a KA washarm support. The first KA dishwasher that was completely of Whirlpool origin was the 24 series of 1997.
