Nice Maytag set

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hi folks! I am actually looking into this set, as they are local to me and my mismatch dryer is demanding an expensive part to repair. I currently have a Maytag a105 which I love everything about except the small tub. Does this model have a larger tub? In your expert opinion, how does this washer compare?

Hello & welcome!
:o)

I'm not an expert nor am I familiar with these later Maytag models.
But what I can tell you from the pictures is, this washer is;
the ex-large capacity,
(with infinite water level selector lever)
it has 2-speed combination buttons
(NORMAL wash/FAST spin, GENTLE wash/Slow spin)
4 water temperature selection buttons
(HOT wash WARM rinse)
(HOT wash COLD rinse)
(WARM wash COLD rinse)
(COLD wash COLD rinse)

Thanks for your input! Yes, the ad says it will probably need a good cleaning. The seller tells me it hasn't been used in a few months. I will ask if it's dirt or damage in those pics.

Hi Kate,

As Bob mentioned above, this machine has the orbital transmission which results in a shorter, faster agitation stroke than your current machine.  Experts here have said it's an improvement over the older type of transmission Maytag used until mid-1987 -- if you can even imagine a Maytag automatic washer that's supposedly more dependable than what earned Maytag its stellar reputation in the first place.

The tub size can be determined by checking the agitator.  Standard tub agitators have three holes down the side and larger ones have four holes.  The "load sensor" agitators have no holes, but I think by the time they were introduced, Maytag was only producing large tub machines.

Maytag Standard Capacity Washers

Are 16 gallon tubs and have a capacity of around 8-10 pounds of cotton fabrics.

Mts larger tub is 19 gallons and will wash around 12-14 pounds of cotton fabrics.

Maytag never made any poundage claims for their washers, these ratings came from service information.
