Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Well that design is from the mid 80s. I found one on ebay in 2003 and the seller said it was around fifteen years old so yeah mid to late 80s.

Early to mid 80's. Aside from the tiresome color, they were rather handsome machines. My neighbor offered me this washer with a dark blue porcelain basket - mint condition, but I declined for lack of room at the time. I saw another at a thrift store a while back, same model and color (have mercy!) w/stainless basket. They seemed to be rather reliable. The washer is a bit noisy, but you get used to saying "I'm sorry, you'll have to speak up - the washer is running."

Greg usually those machines were quiet...its noisy when the transmissions get out of whack. It will still agitate but oh man is it loud and sounds like a freight train when something is going to fail. A couple we know in Florida had an Amana set and the washer was so noisy you could hear it all the way to the other side of the house.
My Amana washer I had in Omaha was very quiet almost Maytag-esque in sound.

I have never been a big fan of almond. The Whirlpool set that I bought my mother in 84 was almond along with the stove. My Kenmore set that I bought in 1994 was almond also. I must have liked it back then, but now I find it a rather boring color. Give me harvest gold, avocado, or turquoise.

Are todays Speed Queen DD or BD?
