Help Support :

Ah yes

This would have saved me a fortune on spares had it come up a while ago.....though I guess it probably has many ageing parts anyway, at least the spares I got for mine are new and ahould last

Restoration

I definately, would like to restore an old machine from that period. It's such a shame, that was so far. Nick's restoration was absolutely first class.

Was a shame it was so far away (as was that A3110 Hoover, the model which I grew up with for the first 9 years of my life). All the good vintage machines seem to be in Scotland! Makes me wonder if they have a different attitude to machines up there, or if the soft water isn't as hard on the machines.

no offence intended.

but you know what they say about the scotch. They dont like waste and dont like spending money im led to believe, so im guessing its been well looked after and had self repairs done on it. but me considers getting me a van for it. But as it goes about 6 weeks ago the local car boot had some big vans of stuff. And in one of the vans was a purple hotpoint. Wish id asked about it. But seeing as i was at home mum and dad would not have been happy. Waste of money and yet again i would have been interrogated over whether i am gay. Well i wont admit to anything during one of their interrogation sessions. Just got to wait now until the guys comes again. Hopefully it will still be there.

It's a gay thing ??

I must admit I find it interesting that to some people liking washers is seen as a gay thing! I suppose it goes back to old fashioned roles as house wives did the washing. When you really look into peoples minds you can see what they really do think about our roles in life.

Really there is absolutely nothing gay (and there is nothing wrong with being gay) about liking these machines. They are after all about design, technology and engineering.

Nick, I hope you find and get your ideal washer.

Regards

Rob

Although interestingly...

many members here are gay, and also the vast majority of members are male. I'm really interested in the reasons for this, to my detriment I'm sometimes a very over analytical person. But that's for another thread I guess......

no its not just a gay thing

and i think its great many people from all walks of life meet here to talk about the one thing of passion they have in common. Yeah Rob the car boot is due again on wednesday. Fingers crossed for the guy to be there with it. It looked in mint condition externally but either way i would buy it even just to look at it. Who needs tv with a liberator in their living room? Lol Nick.

Purple Hotpoint

Nick-UK, I think being able to analyse things is a good thing. And I think what you say is interesting, I wonder what's behind the psychology?

Nick - Aquarius, is this what the machine looked like?

Take care

BTW this add dates from the about 77 if I remember correctly. I think the purple door look was dropped about 79. I guess it became unfashionable, however with the latest 70s revival it's possible someone will bring it back in some guise.

wow

not quite the one but close enough to make my mouth water.

im after the 1000 spin with vriable spin dial purple. top model i think it was. lady accross the road from us used to have the one i want. i never once saw it in action.

So you want what Nick had/has?

Someone was giving away one of these older Hotpoints on the local Freecycle group a couple of weeks ago - all in working order and all.

I don't think it's a Scots attitude (Scots, not Scotch) to look after things particularly more than the rest of the UK, but the water is a lot softer up here and that will have an effect. I don't know why vintage machines seem to be around in Scotland a lot at the moment - perhaps it's just with people getting things redone they're getting rid of older machines? I do have to say that I've seen far more stores up here selling reconditioned older machines than I ever did down in London and Surrey.
