Hey Togs,

A friend of mine's brother and his wife just moved in to my neighborhood. They're all from your side of the Bosporus and I wanted to give them a "Welcome to your new Home" gift. Is there something traditional Helenistic present folks give to one another when this happens besides bread and salt and /or mountains of food?
And, no, I can't afford a 350 Kompressor, thanks very much.

We don't ususally have feta dedicated *keepers* or dishe

ooooh that's a tough one.

Now if you wre giving a Kompressor, that would be gift enough. If you were witnessing someones's new Kompressor you'd throw coins on the floor of the vehcilce and say "KALORIZIKO", meaning "may this be good luck for you and may your costs with it be few" (lotta punch in one word, eh?)

As far as a house gift goes, I'm not sure there is ONE thing to give, but judging by the "gift shops" in Astoria Queens NYC ["The 'hood'"] just about anything tacky or flashy or loud (read: "with gold trim" will do). LOL

Pehaps you'd want to give this with some lottery tickets in it. I beleive it is an authentic (plastic) souvenir of Greece with a place to put a deck of card or mathes. Where can I snail-mail it?

Saw "My Life in Ruins" yesterday..... EH...nothing special.

Togg's - I LOVE that movie...

It's not exactly the same, BUT it reminds me of my Big "Fat" Italian Family...
