Yep, was at a party a few days ago. we were having fun and so on. Eating good food. Then it was time for the dishes. A very clever person started the dishwasher. She did a HUGE mistake. She put regular soap in the washer. Uh-oh, BIG mistake. Too see what happened, scoll down a bit.

The picture are taken from above. The photographer sat on the desk there. You,ll see!!!

foam party!

LOL.

I worked in a skyscraper in Manhattan that had a DW in the lunchroom. Everything was renovated and super expensive.

The super-educated super-intelligent attorneys who were the last to leave (and were instructed to start it every night) did the same thing!

I cant tell you how much damage they did! TE HE HE HE.

Book smart? CHECK
Life smart, uh NO !

Hilarious! A friend of mine and I did this in high school. It was during the summer vacation and her "job for the day" was to get the kitchen cabinets cleaned out. I went over to help make the job go faster - so we could escape. They were out of dishwasher detergent so she used some Dawn liquid in their KDS-17A. A very similar river of suds to your picture that took forever to clean up. On the bright side, her mother was thrilled that she did the job so well and even washed the kitchen floor which wasn't on the list!

Thanks for the picture - funny but horrible for the machine!

my mom did the same thing once...

Her first dishwasher, 1982 TOL Maytag Jetclean all pushbutton model. Mom was out of Cascade, so she used Dawn. I don't know how much she used, but there was foam squirting out of the vents on the front of the machine for quite a while. If I remember correctly it took the machine about 4 complete cycles to clear out.
She never did that again!
The DW survived unharmed as well and lived a long life, finally expiring last year due to a frozen timer.

My mom did that about a year and a half ago, we were out of dish soap so she had the amazing idea to use the other dish soap. I told her not to, but... She freaked out when foam started coming out the air vent by the controlls.

It appeared someone ran hand soap through my Kitchenaid when I got it. I ran it out in the yard to make sure it worked properly, and the wash basin filled with soap suds, and I didn't even put any soap in it!

I always wondered what it would look like when that happens! I've seen someone pour a whole box of Tide into a washer at the college...that has soap suds going all over the floor too!

Love that picture...shows some are lacking in the common sense area!

I actually ran a TINY amount of dish soap in the Hotpoint to clean it out, and shoveled out the suds afterwards (no, none overflowed and got on the floor). Later on, before we replaced it with the Bosch, when it was not cleaning as well and had trouble dispensing the detergent, I added a bit between the powder and that seemed to help.

A housemate of mine did that once, when we lived at a place that had a dishwasher.

Same results.

Someone around here said that the cure for this problem is a tablespoon full of vegetable oil in the DW, and then let it run. The soap suds go to work on the vegetable oil and they "cancel each other out." Makes sense. I don't expect to have a chance to try that any time soon:-)

Everybody was of course drunk at the party so after the photo was taken, somebody said: we should have a foam party in the kitchen!!!. No one did, but that was because the police came. Some people had been so noisy so the neighbour had called the police. I dont think the police saw the mess or maybe he didnt care.

The girl who put the soap in the washer helped cleaning up afterwards. The washer worked fine also. I helped some checking it out (i work with recycling and repairing machines so i know a lot of stuff)
