What brands of non-concentrated HE laundry detergent are there that are easily available in stores? I went to Wal-Mart the other night and all they have are Tide HE 2X and Wisk HE 3X. I keep hearing people with sensitive skin are breaking out in rashes and such and most think it is the fact they are using concentrated HE laundry detergent.

I thought most brands were non-concentrated already. Recently my partner brought home a smaller-than-usual container of Tide (like 2X Tide or something?) that I assume is twice the concentration of the larger size. I had not seen this in the stores before but haven't been looking for it either. At the stores near me, there is still plenty to choose from in the non-concentrated sizes. Or is that stuff just "less" concentrated?

Simple solution would be to use less, way less, of the super concentrated stuff to avoid the skin problems.

Another work-around,

if you haven't been doing this already...an extra rinse might prove useful. I always poke the "extra rinse" button when I add enzymes to the load.

Also, why not call the 1-800 number on the detergent package, and see what the rep says?

Good luck!

I'm using All Stainlifters HE liquid, which is a full-size, nonconcentrated detergent. I found it at my local supermarket. It was my first purchase for my FL. I use a little less than half of the #1 line on the cup, and it works well, with not much suds. I bought it just so I would have something to use when I got my new machine. When I use it up, though, I'm thinking of trying the Sears Ultra Plus HE powder that comes in the buckets. That seems to get high marks from users, so I think I'll try it next.

The fact that the detergent's concentrated shouldn't make any difference at all. I suspect people are using way too much of it because the amounts recommended seem so small, particularly with the Small and Mighty variety.

It's important to follow the instructions carefully, they are really concentrated!!!

The hard part for me is that it is hard to determine 1/2 to 3/4 of the way to Line 1 because the difference from the bottom of the cap is not very much. I would have to guess it is maybe 1/2" from the bottom of the cap to Line 1 on the 2X Tide cap whereas it is like 1 1/4" on the older, non-concentrated Tide HE cap.

Around here, the regular concentration Tide products have all but disappeared! However, Wisk and Purex liquids are still available in regular concentration formulas.

I think in general, the Tide and Gain HE products work the best.

After that, comes Wisk, and then Purex.

Kirkland HE liquid from Costco is a quality product found at Costco at a very reasonable price, but I do not recommend it. It is an extremely sudsy detergent.

I've also experimented with a good detergent....Arm & Hammer with Fabric Softener powder in both TLs and FLs and, really, it is such a low sudser, so inexpensive, and a good product, that IMHO it should be designated an HE product! The only thing to consider is that I remember launderess and other posters here warning that Arm and Hammer powders have high levels of washing soda (makes sense) as an ingredient, and that some posters here believe that could be detrimental to the innards of your washer.

Most of the other interesting liquids that perform well do so with more suds in my soft water than I am comfortable with.
