Nick: Nana (woman) or Ploutarhos (man)?

Don't get me wrong, western musis is great, but one you have eastern music in your blood............

To me all the greatest and happiest events surrounding me were with eastern music. Wedding, christenings, parties, youth dances....yada yada yada

The crossover stuff is interesting too.

Well Toggleswitch 2, I liked both, but I was referring to Ploutarhos really. Absolutely loved it. If I had to name my fave Greek singers it would have to be Kaiti Garbi and Antonis Varfis (excuse spelling). Do you know these artists, what do you think of them? Who else do you like? I spent a lot of time in Cyprus in the nineties and this music brings the memories flooding back.

Regards

Nick

If you really look you can see her crack....a smile...at 1:2

AMAN- "OMG" in Turkish

"Break out your moves. Move it, come on move it, shake your skirt. Bring me to drink so I can be here till dawn. My, oh my, what a young lady I'm in love with! Get up on the table, my sweet doll, dance and break everything this night- AMAN- ouzoum- AMAN"

I mean doesn't this music just get you up... whatever mood you are in?

I swear it almost makes one want to explore the fertile crescent between the Euphrates and the Nile. Wait, what am I saying *SMACK* If it can work THAT miracle it's got to be good! *LOL*

Did someone say Cyprus?

Let's not forget Ofra Haza........

The "Yemenite Queen", as the Brits dubbed her.

I saw her once on stage. Such an amazing talent she had. So unjust that we had to lose her to AIDS. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ofra_Haza

I never really learned about her until the 80's when she started putting traditional Yemen songs to a dance beat. It was so exotic, so intoxicating, so different for it's time. She was such a paradox as a woman originating from a culture that doesn't look kindly upon women with free thoughts, goals, dreams, etc. Anyway, I certainly miss her. I can't imagine what else she would have done if she were still here today....
