Norge Timeline washer transmission question

Me and another potential transmission issue... who'd have guessed??

It's maybe a long shot, but has anyone run into a locked transmission on a Norge washer?  '8 of 56' aka 'the Sopelli Norge' aka the model 432 Timeline had been giving me some grief earlier this year. It was slow to start up on spin and when it did spin, there was a definite squealing sound.  I thought my half-assed repair to the pump was the cause. The machine got pulled from service and this summer I popped in NOS pump. Still no spin...  I had a dig through the Norge manual I have and it suggests that the L.G.S. clutch spring may be at fault.

I'm not so sure... I tried to spin the drive pulley counter-clockwise to simulate spin and couldn't (I had manually released the tub brake). I found I could do so easily with the 55 that came back to life this summer.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have a 1958 Norge Timeline that I have restored, with the help of two donor machines. I overhauled the transmission on my 58 during the restoration, however I remember on one of the donors(1956's)the transmission was locked up and would not agitate. As far as I can remember, the entire transmission spins when these go into the spin cycle, therefor I would doubt if the transmission itself could be the cause of the no spin problem. There is a spring clutch below the transmission itself, that may be the problem. Or perhaps the solenoid is not releasing the tub to spin.

Hi Paul with the break released you should be able to turn the tub easily in either direction it sounds like you have a tight bearing or locked bearing which is not inside the transmission.

Sounds like the bearing housing at the bottom is tight. You should pull the tub and transmission assembly out Paul and look at the bearing parts at the bottom of the machine that the transmission sits in. Might just need some greasing and loosening up.

Thanks, guys! I will check this out when we get back from Spain. I no longer fear taking a Norge washer apart after the '55 restoration... LOL
