I made these bars for the wash-in at Robert's tonight, everyone liked them and a few people asked for the recipe, so I thought I would post it here, so anybody that wanted it (or wanted to try it) could get it. These always go over well at gatherings and are very simple to make.

Venus, this might be a nice first outing when you get your new vintage Frigidaire range! Just make Austin his own pan, or the rest of the family will never get any. They are that good!

The original recipe makes a 9" square pan, but that's just silly. You could eat that many before you ever get to your gathering, or before your husband even got home from work! (LOL) I have the double figures written on my copy to make a
9 x 13 pan (which is what I always make, most times I could easily make 2 to meet demand), and the 9 x 13 ingredients are what I'm going to give here.

Eagle-eye attendees of the wash-in will notice pecans listed in the topping ingredients, and you would be correct, the pecans were not in this batch, since I didn't have any at home. They are good either way.

Graham Cracker Chewies

Crust:

2 2/3 cups graham cracker crumbs
2 tablespoons sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, at room temperature
4 tablespoons all purpose flour

Topping:

3 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
2/3 cup graham cracker crumbs
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 large eggs, beaten

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare the crust: Mix the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, butter, and flour in a mixing bowl until moist and crumbly (I do this in the KA). Press the mixture firmly and evenly in the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking pan. Bake until lightly browned, about 20 minutes.

Prepare topping: Stir all ingredients together until blended (I also do this in the KA). Spread the topping over the baked crust and bake for 20 minutes. Let cool completely, then cut into squares.

The top will seem kind of soft and squooshy when you take it out of the oven, but that's ok, it sets up more as it cools.

Thanks for the recipe Scott, I remember how good they were when you brought them to Greg's last summer. I know that I am going to be making these!! Terry

Scott, these were out of this world. I will have to make some soon! Thanks again for all those wonderful goodies you baked.

Scott these sound yummy! Thanks for sharing your recipe, will make some at first chance.

One more goodie to love!!!!

Scott:

These sound so good. Is this one of those recipes where you end up eating all the raw ingredients before they ever hit the pan?

Austin is making a cake, I'm eating Lawrence's (Maytagbear)rice pudding, and I will definitely be baking these bars this week. My goal is to put on 100 lbs. before the convention!! LOL

Thanks for a great recipe. Would love love love to have been at the wash in!

Venus

Thanks Scott!

The baked goods were delicious, and I appreciate all the time it took to make them as I bake as well. The Graham Cracker Chewies were excellent and the Lemon Bars were not half bad either! Thanks! -Steve

You're all very welcome, glad everyone enjoyed! :) Venus, let me know how you like them when you have a working stove and can make them! Sorry to hear about Austin's cake being spoiled... :(

I made these Sun afternoon. First baking in the GE, other than frozen pizza, LOL. Quite easy, and wow, interesting mix of brown-sugary-almost-caramel-sweetness and almost-toasted-graham-crustyness!
