Dah-links, I just adored the pencil sharpener (if you don't know which one, you haven't been reading the threads attentively. Not to be missed.)
Haven't found one, but did find this little gem - yet another proof of our overriding cultural superiority here in Europe.*
(Anyone who wants one, better sit down and re-calculate the $=>€ rate...ouch!)
*That was a joke. I hope.
**I refuse to translate the texts. You may assume they are just as nasty as your mind suggests.

It's obvious what is happening . . .

Those Chinese factory owners aren't stupid: now that the dollar is in the hole, they're going after the Euro market. Ten years ago we'd have probably been first to get 'em here in the US, now it looks like we'll have to wait awhile or bend over and order from Europe.

Toggles,

I posted that really just for you - I couldn't resist.
I'd take orders, but they can not be sent through the US mails.
Wish I were joking.
Hydralique, you would have to go back much further than 10 years.
It is sad, and tragic - because the US really is the greatest country on earth - but the US has fallen so far behind the rest of western Culture in so many ways that it is frightening.
We get our whoopee cushions and our doggy-dids a whole season before you do. Not to mention our burping answering machines - they can burp in polyphony!
That'll larn' ya to call us "Old Europe!"

Nah,

you're too sweet and gentle.
Oh, my paws and whiskers...I propose a thread for the tackiest, worst taste stuff. Just add on to this one! That way, delicate sensibilities won't be shocked...who wants to go first?

Oh Well . . .

"the US has fallen so far behind the rest of western Culture in so many ways that it is frightening" -Panthera.

Even so, we should perhaps amend H.L. Mencken's famous saying that nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public to include Europeans as well.

One thing I always like about really tasteless little objet d'art is that they make me laugh and remind me that the real enemy is mediocrity, not tackiness.

No, my dear Hydralique

not all Europeans...just folks like me. There's enough who echo Queen Victoria's supposed comment "we are not amused". I agree with you, a little bit of Schmaltz never hurt anyone but mediocrity is bad. Only one thing is worse - taking oneself too seriously.

We need more laughter and happiness in this world and if this butters your muffin, then let it float your boat.

By the way, how many folks know what "the vapors" really were? They'd die if they knew which wind was blowing ( or should I say wheezing)...

and I thought it meant a fainting spell!

Are you saying it's gas from the @$$?

Now if the male sharpener was about 30 to 40 years younger (of legal age, dear......)and had jet-black hair and blue or green eyes, I'd HAVE to order one...........
