not so easy today

well i ran one load through and all was fine as it has been for years. but at the end of the last load the last items to spin the machine began to squeal and the pump quit . i looked at what i could see the motor is running fine the pump shaft is spinning but making lots of noise and wont drain. i guess the pump has died. so question amyone have a source for a pump or a good used one. ill try and find a pump and try a repair, but if no parts are left i guess it time to scrap it. any ideas out there?

NOS pumps for Easy SpinDriers are rare as hen's teeth. So you're probably looking at finding either a donor machine or maybe someone has a pump lying about spare.

It's truly amazing how little stock has show up over years for Easy SpinDriers of all models. Considering number of units sold not just in USA but also up north (Canada) would would think things would pop up now and then.

Maybe another sort of modern or vintage pump would work?

i got my hands up in there and turned the pump pulley it feels like one of the impeller fins broke off and is kinda moving around and stuck in there. not sure if its worth trying to take apart and open up the pump or not. i guess thats the only choice. its really crammed in there

May be worth a shot to down load parts/repair manual from library. One cannot know players without a score card, and one has always found such things useful in sussing what one is potentially getting into.

At least you'd have a general idea of pump and can ponder repair or how to replace and with what.

Thanks for all the info. i think once i get it back into the garage i can tinker a little more. i can either tip it a little or find a way to raise it up about a foot. i kinda need a little more room to get my hands in there. i want to see if i can get what ever is stuck in the pump out maybe that will do it . but if the pump is shot i can always turn it into a gravity drain . need a little more time to tinker. she has been such a good machine

Hello Chris, Easy had two pump models, one is attached to the agitator drive and comes off easily--thumbscrew and clamp; the other is right in front below the control panel. Done both, the first, cake; the second, really hard. The nipple valves can come loose and get stuck in the pump. When I took the pump apart the tiny hinge that holds the nipple had snapped and a piece of safety pin fixed 'er up. It was brutal, but has been going strong for six seven years or so. Nothing like an Easy Spin. Good luck. I'm sure you'll figure it out.

well i had an idea i took off the hose the pump drains into and of course it fell apart, but i was able to stick my pinky finger in there and sort of feel around. i can feel the impellers they are still there then as i was turning the pump wheel it got stiff like it was stuck and i could feel something in there so i got a pair of hemostatsand stuck that in there as was able to grab onto this glob of crap. pulled it out then got the wet dry vacuum cleaner and started sucking out these chunky lime scale rocks out. it now moves nice and free. new hose and ill water test it tomorrow . i hope that takes care of it. huh who knew. prob a life time of lint and lime

Hopefully pump just needed a good cleaning out then will be good to go.

Nearly every vintage washer one has collected has a pump encrusted to some degree with limescale, muck, undissolved soap or detergent.... What sort of water do people outside of NY have anyway? *LOL*

Only washer that didn't have such issues was the Maytag wringer. It was a local find and thanks to our soft water things were pretty clean.

Worse for us collectors is these vintage machines are often put away after final use and sit for ages. All that muck, gunk and whatever else just sits inside pump ossifying. *LOL*

ha ha ha Chris--exactly and decomposing. How lucky you did not have to take the pump apart. Now you can go back to the joy of Easy washing.

went to water test and it locked up again. got my pinky finger in there could feel a rubber disk rolling around in there. i know it was one of the flapper things. got the pump out omg what a mess that is getting in there
