I just missed Steve's call at 2:50 CST Sun., had gone to eat lunch with a friend of mine. He usually calls a 2nd time in the eve. when he knows I HAVE to be home. I feel aweful I missed his call. Rhinnie is at peace and whole again. But I feel so empty. I met them on the same trip as when Glenn met them. They stayed here for the night, wow, 6 years ago.

Steve 1-18's On-Line

Hello my dear friends. Sorry for the long silence.

Thanks for all your wonderful words. It is still hard to believe that Rhinnie's not in the next room.

I got home Tuesday evening about 5 pm and wasn't home about an hour when Mike and Earl came over. While they were here, Tom and Bob stopped by. There are a few members that have been out to visit me and have met these great guys.

They visited and we shared and recalled wonderful memories. Rhinnie's spirit was among us. It was a wonderful time. I sent them home about 930.

It's now Wednesday morning. Like I said earlier, I'm sitting in my home office, reading my e-mails, glancing over at the clock (time flys by). Usually about 8:30, I'd go to Rhinnie and wake him up and ask him what he wants for breakfast. His favorite was an English Muffin with low sugar jelly.

Yesterday morning, Mom and I had English muffins for breakfast. As I was buttering I started to cry. I said to Mom it seems strange not to be fixing one for Rhinnie, too. He could eat English muffins every morning, if I would let him. The same for apples. I would ask him, "can I get you something to eat?" "No!" "Are you sure?" "Yes!" "Sandwich?" "No!" "Cookies?" "No!" "Something to drink?" "No!" "An apple?" "Okay!"

What happened?

What happened?

Rhinnie and I left Mom’s house (in Florida) Sunday morning to head back home. While we were driving back, Rhinnie went to sleep. When I tried to wake him, he didn’t respond. I took him to a hospital, but he wasn’t breathing. The team immediately called a code blue, and I asked them please don’t resuscitate him. The doctor immediately asked who I was and I told him I was his life partner and I know he did not want to be resuscitated. The doctor responded that was good enough for him and all efforts were stopped.

It was a pretty horrible time both then and recalling it each time someone asks what happened. Perhaps, in time, it will be easier to discuss, but for now, every time I relate the story, it is hard.

Every time I call someone to tell them of Rhinnie’s passing, it is so painful. They are usually in shock and start to cry and that gets me going, too.

Dear Steve
Gary and I are so sorry to hear about Rhinnie's passing. We're glad we had the opportunity to know him and I will always remember that sparkle he had in his eye. I'm glad to hear that he just went to sleep and had an easy, painless passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

There is nothing I can add except to say how sorry I am for you. I will keep you in my prayers. For whatever comfort it is , when our loved ones' time comes, it seems kinder for them to just go to sleep and not wake up. Harder on us perhaps since we don't get a chance to say goodbye, but....

Steve, your love and dedication to caring for Rhinnie through that difficult time is a model for others to follow. His spirit is at peace. May you be as well.

Steve,

We should all have someone like you in our lives. I'm so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mike

Obituary Notice

Reinhold C. Koenig (65) Beloved life partner to Steve, brother to Jeanette, Minnie, Lillie, Berthold and Andrew, and friend to all he met, passed on August 13th, 2006 peacefully in his sleep. He has left this world as we know it, his soul and spirit no longer needing the chalice we call the human body. Rhinnie has closed the mortal chapter of his existence with all its happiness, joy, trials, pain and suffering. His spirit waits for us to join him when it is our turn.

Meanwhile, as we wait our turn for eternal reward, you are invited to share a celebration for the time God shared Rhinnie with us. A memorial celebration will be celebrated on
Saturday, August 26th at his church,
MC Church of Our Redeemer
557 Greene St.
Augusta, GA
at 5 pm.
The church phone number is 706-722-6454. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift in his memory, to the window restoration of his beloved church. God bless all.

My favorite passage of Scripture

Is Psalm 23. It is a humbling, yet comforting passage that lets you know that God is in control.

Written best and most beautifully (of course) in the King James translation.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life
and I (Rhinnie) will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Mine too Jason

The 23rd Psalm is a great comfort, although i have yet to meet you, steve keep your chin up. Like most all here I have offered up, my thoughts in prayer, sure hope your getting along, as well as you can. Was thankful to see this update.
respectfully arthur

My condolences

Steve:

I'm just shocked. I knew about Rhinnie's health problems from the board, but he always seemed to come through. I am deeply sorry for your loss.

Take care of yourself.
