So it looks like I'll be scoring a new toy this week.
I was cruising the local Craigslist ads, (which I don't do often, actually). And saw an ad listed for a "Maytag Portable Dryer".
Thinking that there was only ever one type of "portable" "dryer" by "Maytag" I of course clicked on the link.
Not only was it what I thought it was, but even better. A Maytag DE50 Porta-Pair dryer in WHITE. That will now match my white 1980 Maytag A50 Porta-Pair washer.
And if that wasn't enough, the seller included a link to a video where they posted the dryer was 'featured' at about 1 min. into the video.
One click on that video link and I immediately recognized it as MY video from when I first acquired the Maytag "Porta-Pair" in the Spanish Avocado nearly 3 years ago. Most of you have seen that video.
Needless to say our "chats" via text have been fun and humorous.
When I mentioned it was my video the reply was:

"Lol! really? I assumed the person was in the States and had secretly wished he wasn't so I could tempt him into taking it! Haha!"

Sounds like this dryer was MEANT to be mine all along.
Not only two pairs of twin tubs now, but the rarest of the North American twin tubs at that, the Maytag "Porta-Pairs" in matching colours.
Can't wait to get this baby home and up and running.
And yeah, I'll post pictures. If I must............ ;)

The ones included are from the seller.
Oh, btw.....cost?
$40.00

WOOOO HOOOOO!!!

Congratulations on finding a matching Porta-dryer for your maytag twin tub washer! It does definitely sound like this find was meant to be!
Can't wait to see the pictures you take of your latest treasure!
:o)

HAHAHA! Good story! I went and found the Craigslist ad and the link to your video.

Congrats TwinTubber!

Thanks Hippie & Barco

I'm grateful for your well wishes. 'Cause I got it!
It's in rough shape though I have to say and although I don't have it home yet, it will be by the weekend.
Seems to have the same issue as most of them do too-that poly belt used for the exhaust fan.
I'll deal with that but I may end up using it as spare parts for the Spanish Avocado unit so I can have it working with it's matching washer while the white "set" waits for another time to be worked on fully.
But I'm quite thrilled to get such a score. The lady was a lot of fun to chat with and even plugged it in to make sure it worked. It had been sitting outside wrapped in plastic for a little while though so that may have contributed to it's nasty condition.
Oh, and 2-1/4 blocks from where I lived for 2-1/2 years when I first moved back to Toronto in 2001. I walked & cycled past that house hundreds of times.
Can you believe that?
And I hadn't been back there since 2004. Even grabbed a pizza slice at the obscure but awesome pizza place around the corner from the old house. Ahhh, such memories on that walk around the area.
Small world!
