Siding and bricks

The next step is probably the bricks and the vinyl siding.

Can't start on the inside of the house until the doors are installed. I guess we have a shortage of doors or something. They're nothing fancy. Just one with a full window and the kitchen door with a half window, with blinds installed inside the windows.

This weekend, Helen makes another appearance so we get to pick out floor, carpets, and cabinets. We're set on wall colors. Pale (or happy or whatever) yellow in the kitchen, pale green (almost turquoise) in the laundry (YAY!) and a neutral off-white for everything else. For cabinets, light maple and a dark greenish Formica top . She wouldn't go for orange :-( .

Beware dark colored laminate counter tops. One wrong scratch and the lighter underside shines right through.

Mexican polka yodeling with an accordian is not music. Par for the course around here is to be at a stop light with rap going on one side, Mexican PYA going on the other, and they decide to have a volume war.

And you can put splitters on the water hookups to have more machines connected.

Yep, it's all about the same to me. But that's what people used to say about The Beatles and Elvis, and then in my generation, the heavy metal music (and yes, it's music).

There was a great show on our local PBS station the other night. It was a documentary about how classical musicians feel about their music. They followed various musicians - mostly orchestra members - around as they engaged in other forms of music - such as a trombonist who moonlights in a salsa band.

A captivating sequence shows an accordian player in what looks like a hotel lobby. He is playing on of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, and I was quite impressed with how he captured something written for a small orchestra on a single portable non-electronic instrument. I was a music major at univeristy for a short time, and the whole show was a surprisingly emotional experience for me.

Accordions

Accordions were made to be little "band in the boxes". Even the Cajun accordion has 10 melody keys and 2 bass/chord keys. You can play a wide range of chords and notes on the treble side and do the simple waltz or two-step patterns on the bass side, effectively giving you lots of sound coming from a small instrument.

Yes. It's an instrument capable of genearting much joy and pleasure, or much pain and annoyance. I guess it all depends on the player!

Jason, I work for a window manufacturer here in Wausau, WI and one of the hot new sellers for our company have been high impact windows. I'm just curious to know if yours are, and if so, may I inquire as to whom the manufacturer is? Forgive me if I'm being too nosy, but inquiring minds would like to know.

Suds, exactly. When I play I try not to play the wrong notes but you know what, it happens. I just pause, get my fingers ready for the next measure and get on with the song. A good player can do that without people noticing it much.

Polka, I don't know who the manufacturer is but I can find out tomorrow. It's "builder grade" windows and they're really nice and easy to operate. As far as being high-impact, I dunno. I am going to get some plywood and hurricane clips before season starts so when a 'cane comes this way, put 'em up. The 'cane passes, take them down.

Hey Jason,

I was setting my Lux TX1500 programmable thermostat for summer hibernation, and accidentally locked it so that I couldn't make any changes.

I had to hunt down the owner's manual for the arcane keystroke sequence that would unlock it.

Suggestion: get one for your new home... so visitors who are "authorized" to make changes to the thermostat - and not smart enough to chase down the manual - will not be able to change your settings.
