At Passover, Coke reverts to the cane sugar formula. Any Coke bottle marked "Kosher For Passover" is made with the original formula, not the corn syrup formula.

When Passover comes around, buy a bottle and see if you taste a difference.

(America is the only country in which the corn syrup formula is regularly used.)

Which?

Hnnakah is Christmas and Passover is Easterish correct?

Roughly-

and this is very roughly:Passover (Pesach) is a celebration of freedom.

The main meal is called a Seder.

"The Last Supper" was a Seder.

Passover is always before Easter.

Chaunukah was a relatively minor holiday, but has become more prominent thanks to the baby boom generation.

It is typical, at least in the Jewish families I know, for adults not to exchange Chaunukah presents, but just have presents for the children.

There are a few points in common with Christmas, but they are not the same.

Commonalities:Both early winter festivals.

Both emphasize "light".

Both have gatherings and food traditionally oriented towards the celebration. Latkes (potato pancakes,) and cookies for example.

Children get presents.

Those are some the commonalities, and that's all I can think of.

Parve!

Passover is always before Easter.

I know it is in my flavor of Chrisitiany, which is why "our" Easter date is mostly out of synch with the western world.

Thank you Lawrence for this important bit of data!

And thanks for the sugar-in-the-soda tip, all.
The high fructose corn syrup makes me ill.

And Marty has a new nickname!

"Nurse Babylove"

I did not make that up. I cannot take credit for it. If the originator wishes to step forward, he may do so.

But for now, it's time for my sponge bath.

"Linus Pauling, two time Nobel laureate, always said that corn syrup was an acceptable sweetener. I guess he was wrong, but I do not know why. Does anyone know why high fructose corn syrup is so bad?"

I am no scientist, so take this with about a whole shakerful of salt, but as I understand it, High Fructose Corn Syrup is like regular Corn Syrup on steroids. It's much sweeter than either sugar or regular corn syrup, so it's cheaper for the manufactuers to use, but the body doesn't process it well, and stores it as fat at a much higher level than the body does with regular sugar. Also, it doesn't trigger insulin production in the pancreas (?) so it has been thought to lead to diabetes.

But here's the kicker: It's everywhere! Just look at the ingredients on stuff like ketchup or "healthy" juices, and you're likely to find it. I now buy Hunt's Organic Ketchup, just because it doesn't have it in it, and it's much better than regular ketchup. You can actually taste the tomatoes and other spices :-)

and stores it as fat at a much higher level than the body does with regular sugar.

I lost a great deal weight by just stopping the soda a/k/a high fructose corn syrup.

Without the HFCS the sugar highs and lows I was experiencing disappeared as well. And to be honest I did have myself checked for diabetes because the constant thirst and urination that the soda was causing looked like symptoms of diabetes to me.

My understanding is that the artificial sweetenerd that enable the "Diet" label are worse in the body- which also can't process them well.

I tend to buy foreign (oopsie, international /imported) flavored syrups (without HFCS) and stick them over seltzer water.

The supermaket may have them in the imports section. I get some at IKEA as well. YAY lingonberry!

To me, more natural and heathier.

Agiflow

Over the last couple of months, well since September anyway, i got off the diet coke binge. Instead of diet doke or diet pepsi i drink Crystal lite with a meal but not alot.

I found this flavored water that i am now drinking intead of soda. Its called Cascadia. It comes in different flavors and in my opinion its just like drinking a flavored pop. It has no calories, no aspartame, it is sweetened with splenda, no caffiene and most important it has no sodium! I was drinking diet coke like water thinking that it was okay abut when i got off the drink ( LOL ) i lost 7 pounds just in water bloat alone!! The flavors are Black cherry, White Grape, Key Lime, Peach, Apricot Mango, Raspberrry, and Strawberry. Oh it is a carbonated drink. Try it.

Veg, I've been called Nurse Ratched, Nurse Diesel, and "that funny guy in the white hat". I'll take Nurse Babylove!

And while we are on that subject, all types of occupations are portrayed in movies and on TV. Firefighters, Nurses, Cops, teachers, etc. Whether that portrayal is accurate is up to the writers but i noticed no one ever has a problem. Except for nurses! I'm always reading how nurses have a problem with how thay are portrayed. Never hear anything from Law Enforcement or Fire. Speaking as a working RN, I think nurses shouldn't worry so much about how they are portrayed on TV. Who cares? I know i am professional and so do my patients and the staff and physicians i work with. What nursing needs to concentrate more on is doing a better job at preparing students for the job and just know that the public knows that nursing is an honorable profession.

The Diet Rite

sodas have no sodium. They are also sweetened with Splenda.

I really like the Diet Rite black cherry, and the white grape flavours. The Diet Rite cola is, to me, better than caffeine free diet Coke.

The Wylers Lite raspberry is as good as the Crystal Light raspberry, and here, less expensive per serving.
