Nutone exhaust fan motor replacement

I have a Nutone bathroom exhaust fan from 2007 that the motor went out on a few years ago. I want to put a new motor in it, but I am wondering if there is any way to upgrade to a better fan blade also. It has a flat disc like impeller blade in it. I didn't find the performance to be great, noisy and not much air movement. I see some replacement motors with a squirrel cage like blower. Would one of these fit in my housing and improve performance?

I have also seen bath fan upgrade kits in the past that claim better air movement and less noise, but not sure they will fit. They seemed to be for the square shaped plastic grille units.

My fan is a glass dome shaped light with vents around the top. Model 741WH, which appears to be no longer made.

take your motor to a Electrical/Plumbing supply place, (not Lowes/HomeDepot)....

they will either have an exact replacement, or universal one, and will have answers to better units, if available, that will fit your box....

biggest killer to these is the bearing from non lubrication and dust....most times you can clean them out and oil, and your good to go.....

sometimes you can bend the blades for more air flow....a lot of times they use plastic for noise control...

I tore down the old fan in my rental bathroom a bunch of times, clean and lube up and it would run fast and like new again. I have done similar for the small computer fans. Most have a plastic plug over the back where the hearing is and some good synthetic oil will bring even a locked up one back. Like said you can probably get it running easily then take your time finding a replacement.
A lot of the bol units use really cheap poorly made fans that builders love to make it look nice and save money.
The fan in my new bathroom is starting to get noisy and I'll probably tear it out and lube it up. Darn thing is only 3 years old but was a cheap one, other bathroom has the original fan from 96 and its noisy and the flapper is stuck open. Guess the flippers didn't want to replace anything that sorta worked.

my house came with a ~1970 broan fan-design had strut for grille too close to 4-blade metal fan: creating a buzz as blades chop through turbulence of strut.Removed original motor and fan blade,then mounted separate blower in attic and ducted in-very quiet and will hold a washcloth sucked against grille Someone on here once mentioned that "fart fans"might be made intentionally loud to mask gassy noises in the bathroom...

We have remote blower "fart fans" in the bathrooms here at work.Same with the kitchen.The blowers are in the building attic HVAC area.One night one of these motors decided to let out its smoke.Spotted the offender-brownish color motor case instead of grey and smoke coming out of it.Turned off its breaker and notified the building engineer in the morning.Guess that fan vented too many "farts"??When I lived in a townhome in Manassas,Va had to replace one of the bathroom blowers-the thing was sealed so you couldn't take it apart to try to repair.A replacement was as close as the HD place.They had a proper replacement blower motor and fan.Took 10 min to replace.Same with a similar fan at a radio station DJ lounge bathroom.Both of those motors were of the open "phono motor-shaded pole type"

I have an surplus replacement motor kit from a Broan/Nutone vent fan. Take a look at the photos and see if it resembles what you have.

I couldn't find your exact model # in the Broan-NuTone catalog, there were 741 models but they had different suffix's. I would Google any model/part numbers on the motor etc to see if you find a cross. Most of these motors are pretty similar so close may be close enough.

As far as upgrading the motor, maybe but you probably won't do much better then what was in there initially. Changing to a squirrel cage blower would really mean replacing the entire unit with something else.

I did the same thing

went Lowes and got a replacement motor, but the shaft was a tad too long and hit the top of the case...Dremel to the rescue!  cut off 1/4 inch and shoved the blades back on there...works like a charm.  I just wish it had more power to it.  When I lived with my parents I bought a fan for a much larger bathroom than we had...it would pull the door open if it wasn't latched properly!  That's what I want here.  I like hot showers but don't like to be hot when I get out of the shower.
