O. M. G: "Pank" early 60's/late 50's Maytag Washer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Thanks Ben

Looks similar to the A142S in my basement, minus a few details. A money shot of that one would be nice... But, looks promising!

The front bump along the top of the front panel is usually the tell-tale sign between an 700 and a true blue 142.  The CL Maytag has the flat lip which was introduced sometime in 61/62.

There were a few gold dot glass panel 142 washers, but not many.  Most 142 had the ribbed lined glass.

Thanks again Ben-- that bump you speak of. Is that the chrome trim piece, horizontally placed on the front edge? I never noticed the gold dot glass thing either. You're right: the 142 I have has the horizontal lines, not dots. That's why I love this site: what a resource! I ran up to meine Frau with the picture, giddy as a kid again, and got the "dear in the headlights look". I was like c'mon! Pink Maytag! Nope. No registration. Normies... Oh well ;-)

Hey - no worries!  Here is an example of the 'bump' I spoke of (pictured is Tim's 1958 142).  It first appeared on the 101P in 1953, and was in place on the TOL models through the early 60's.

Drew -

All 141 and very early 142's "used up" the AMP lid assemblies.  Years and years ago I found a really cool document that Robert has added to AE.org - the Maytag Parts Identification Manual from 1966.  It gives the production date usage for major parts, and the lid changes were nicely documented in this file.

The last of the AMP style lids were discontinued in June of '58 on the 142, with the single piece lids coming into play for TOL models by July of the same year.

I hope this helps!

That machine with its gold Maytag logo and dots, combined with the multicolor lit dial and copper color knob insert all on pink make it very glam. And SS to boot - it should be in the club. Somebody go get it.

Finally heard from the seller!

He's going to send more photos today.   Things are in motion now!   YAY!

I already have a "shipper" lined up too as Justin (CountryFord) will be in Rochester, MN early next week!  Again, YAY!

Yes!

Congrats Kevin! So glad this ones going to a home where it's appreciated. Can you post some pics when it arrives? Gotta have me some vintage appliance "porn" to stare at ;-p

My relatives, long time waybac, had this set. I was stopped dead in my tracks when I saw them, never having seen such blatantly PINK washers and dryers before. Doing the happy dance it got a good home. Big grins!

THANKS!

But the deal is not done yet, so please keep your fingers crossed!

If this all works out, it will be my first suds saver machine..... AND..... The same brand, model and color of machine that I grew up with! YAY! (Except ours wasn't a suds saver)

Kevin

Oh cool! Congratulations, Kevin!! Say, I knew where there was a pink 'Tag dryer north of Montreal.... Just sayin'...

Can't wait to see more Maytag suds-saver demos!!
