That green tinge could be algae. Try closing the lid to block out light when it's not in use.
Me, I replaced both my water guzzlers with dual flush single piece models from Costco. Waterridge or some such Chinese brand. The first, older one works great, rarely clogs, but it does require weekly cleaning. The second one is in the guest bath and rarely gets used, but will discolor in time if it's used at all. It has a different flush mechanism and I don't think it flushes as completely as the first one. I might just rebuild the original pink Kohler (1941) with a dual flush mechanism and reinstall it in the guest bath. It would certainly look better, and it gets so little use that water consumption isn't really an issue. When the California drought lifts, that is...
