That green tinge could be algae. Try closing the lid to block out light when it's not in use.

Me, I replaced both my water guzzlers with dual flush single piece models from Costco. Waterridge or some such Chinese brand. The first, older one works great, rarely clogs, but it does require weekly cleaning. The second one is in the guest bath and rarely gets used, but will discolor in time if it's used at all. It has a different flush mechanism and I don't think it flushes as completely as the first one. I might just rebuild the original pink Kohler (1941) with a dual flush mechanism and reinstall it in the guest bath. It would certainly look better, and it gets so little use that water consumption isn't really an issue. When the California drought lifts, that is...

I remember living in rental units with water guzzling toilets that rarely needed cleaning. This has changed with the water miser units of today. But they do help with the water bill.

I've been hesitating to use proper cleaning agents on my Standard Cadet 3 because of its supposed antibacterial bowl treatment.  Honestly, how long can such a thing last?  I've not been able to find any details on how this treatment is applied/integrated into the bowl.  Care instructions advise to use just a mild soap and water solution when cleaning.  Yeah, right.  I've used foaming sprays, but never anything abrasive.

We have fairly hard water and regardless of how often this toilet is used, a stain develops around the circumference of the water line in the bowl.  Lime Away helps, but I'd really like to take a pumice stone to it.  Because of this antibacterial situation, I've yet to take the plunge, as it were.  Or maybe by using Lime Away, I already have.

The toilet itself is quite capable.  At 1.28 GPF, it hasn't clogged in the five or so years that we've had it, and the surface area of the water in the bowl is considerably larger than other low flow models.
