I have a Maytag Washer Model LAT9806AAE. Apparently the off balance sensor or switch does not function properly. The washer walks when there is an unbalanced load. Can someone tell me where this switch is located on the machine?

same ol song and dance

The out of balance switch is part of the lid switch and plunger mechinism. What i have seen alot of is, the out of balance switch does work but when a maytag machine is not properly leveled they will walk when they shouldnt but yet its not enough to trigger the out of balance. The other possibilty is the damper pads may be drying out and/or need replacment which can cause the machine to shake rather badly during the spin.

Keep us posted

Thanks Scott, for the info. I removed the front cover, the two screws holding the top down and found the lid switch. First, let me say that I do have the washer well balanced. The problem occurs infrequently, usually when washing some throw rugs or sheets. Is the off balance switch a mercury switch internal to the lid switch? Visually, I did not see anything that would look like an off balance switch. I looked at the wiring diagram and did not find any switch marked as an off balance switch. Any further words of wisdom. BTW, the machine is 11 years old and looks pretty much new and 99.9% of the time, functions perfectly.
