Sorry for the off-topic question. Y'all as a group have your pulse on what's up. Today I can use your help again.
A restauranteur wishes to switch to satellite radio to replace a dead CD player. Mandatory request: There MUST be a LOT of SINATRA content available. (Whatcha expect in Chicago??)
Sooo... What is it? Serius Radio? XM? Other?
Any and all comments welcome regarding usability, cost, service, content or whatever.
I promise I won't drag this string out - but I can really use your comments. Thanks!

Living in the middle of nowhere...

I just enrolled in XM radio after Christmas. I went with XM because Radio Shack had the receiver on sale. I throw the antenna on the dash, and have great reception (except when between some buildings in built-up areas), and can move the receiver from the car to the truck and back again.

I signed up for the Mostly Music package, and really enjoy it on my commute to work. I don't care much for talk radio, but am happy that the plan offers NPR. Mostly Music is $9.99/month.

Given that satellite radio

either is on or just come off or is about to go back on life support in the US, perpetually, I wouldn't invest too much money in it.

The internet radio stations now offer commercial services with the same or better bandwidth and far more customization than XM can offer. My suggestion would be, check out both commercial services and, if you can do XM cheaply (including fees for public use) and if the stations fit your needs, give it a whorl. It's easier for a non-techie to keep going.

Personally, I've found lastfm, shoutcast and, may the saints preserve us, aol come closer to my needs. Pandora has tried very hard to meet customer's wishes and, if he is willing to go far enough off-base to put up with Bublé, perhaps the most interesting.

Siriously Sinatra

That would be on my XM 73. And yes, you get LOTS of Sinatra. It's on my Pioneer INNO. The receiver is small, records songs from the radio, though you can't download or copy them to other media. Suppose there could be a workaround for that though. It plugs into my car and there is an optional boom box unit for it as well. With the home adapter I can plug it into my home stereo system.

For some lounge type instrumental there is XM 28, Escape. Sounds a lot like elevator music which I love. Spa on 72 is more the new age type instrumental.

My subscription is $12.95/month and won't go back to regular radio. I had service across country and back on a recent trip, plus you can get local traffic and weather for most major cities.

There are a lot of different units out there. You would want to get one that allows you to plug it into your stereo.

Serius and XM are basically the same thing now. One owns the other, I just don't know which owns which.

We have Serius with our Dish Network and really like it. Our friends have AT&T U-Verse and absolutely hate their music offerings.

When we had Comcast, they offered DMX, which was the best of them all, then went to "Music Plus" which was a huge minus.

I've heard Sirius in restaurants out there and they have a station that's just old vocal standards with plenty of Sinatra, Fitzgerald, etc. That's probably your best bet.
