For many months,I've used liquid Fab spring magic and have loved it.Low sudsing, pleasant scent, good cleaning ability and inexpensive.Recently noticed a marked dropoff in cleaning power, from Fab to drab so to speak.Looked on the bottle and it now says Phoenix brands. It was Colgate-Palmolive before.I've heard Phoenix ruins the brands they take over.True or not?BTW,took my dingy clothes and used liquid Wisk multi-clean instead and they were restored in ONE WASH!

Oh, Fab......I'm sad........There's no lemon-freshened borax in you.

Haven't used Fab since the '70s. Sorry to hear it's been sunk by Phoenix. Furthermore, calling a company 'Phoenix' leads one to believe it exists to resurrect and improve-upon products; 'Hindenburg' would be the more apt name, don't you think?

I have a box of...

Fab- "Spring Magic" powder and I have to say for the $$$, it is an excellent product. It also has a really nice scent and is formulated for HE Front load washing machines.

One the back of my box it says "Phoenix Brands"..I notice no difference to be honest. Same can be said for my bottle of Fresh Start and Final Touch, also made by Phoenix Brands...

Fab......

was best back in the 70's and 80's with the "Lemon Freshened Borax" formula..I sure do miss that detergent...

mrcleanjeans...

You just saved me some money!! I love the Fab Rain Forest powder. It cleans my clothes really well and I'm crazy about the scent. I bought it at the dollar store and made sure the box was marked Colgate-Palmolive because I read that Fab had been aquired by Phoenix Brands. I had been pondering if I would still purchase this detergent if the box says Phoenix Brands. In light of what you shared, the answer is no. You are right. A lot of the classic products have been reformulated after they are sold to other companies. A lot of the posters, including myself, complain about this all the time. In fact, a lot of consumers on other websites are complaining about this problem, too. What really gets me is the way the companies try to pass these different versions off as being the same when they are not!!!

Phoenix Brands only owns the brand name, products are still made by CP, or whomever they purchased the line from. PB was founded by a group of former marketing executives from I think P&G, but could be wrong. By selling off the brand, then making the product under contract, CP/PG gets the brand off their books, and still makes money with the equipment already owned. PB gets to slap their name on a brand already known to the market, and more importantly does not have the expense of builing factories, etc.

Being as all this may, the new Biz (also sold by CP), is terrible. Difficult to rinse out, smells like fruit punch, and is very high sudsing. So maybe the answer is "yes", CP does ruin a brand when they get their mitts on it, though they probably consider it updating.

Call around to industrial supply companies, dollar stores or Nationwide Warehouse stores, there is bound to be heaps of the old CP stuff lying around at this early date in the change over.

Launderess, you're right...

mrcleanjeans said he only had a problem with the bottle marked Phoenix Brands not the bottle marked Colgate-Palmolive. At the dollar store where I buy Rain Forest Fab powder all of the boxes are marked Colgate-Palmolive. I won't continue to buy Fab if PB has reformulated this product into one that doesn't perform well like mrcleanjeans said.

Fair Warning:

Don't go messing with Ajax dish liquid, people. It's the best traditional dish liquid on the market, at a very fair price.

Water it down or change it, and no Phoenix Brands for me!

Pay close attention...

Everyone take a deep breath, Launderess has very good credibility and I would trust anything he says.

Phoenix Brands Fab..Colgate Palmolive Fab...same exact product. I notice no difference in cleaning ability whatsoever. As for Ajax Dish Detergent, I wouldn't worry Sandy. Whenever I head to Publix for groceries, Ajax Dish Detergent seems like it sells through quickest. For the $$$ and perfomance, it sure is a good value.

Shane, My Boy . . .

Last time I checked, Launderess is a "she". LOL.

Would love to see a pic of Launderess on the Pic thread! I have a feeling she may look a lot like Cheryl Mendelson! Just kidding . . Launderess - I think you should write your own book on Laundry and all things related. If you were to write a book, I would be the first to buy it and ask for your autograph!

Okay, there's my random thought for the day. LOL.

Bryan, My boy........

you see Launderess has been a big secret to many of us. Everyone has been just dying to see her pic. or is she a he??? Who knows...I think a pic would resolve all this =)

Bryan, where is your pic btw? =)

Phoenix

Laundress is exceptionally well informed. In this case, however, I think she's confusing Phoenix Brands with Redox.

Redox was formed by ex-Procter & Gamble marketing execs in July 2000 to take over Biz and Oxydol, which P&G continues to make for them on a contract basis.

Phoenix Brands was formed in December 2003 to take over Sunlight, Final Touch and certain other brands from Unilever in the US market. The deal with Colgate was made in July 2005.

Ah, nothing like links to make your point!

Thanks for the above links.....

I think that Laundress would look like Judith Martin, aka Miss Manners, at least their writing style is similar.

Or maybe our Laundress looks like Richard Pryor in drag?

Laundress, we respectfully ask for a photo to solve the mystery!

Judith Martin, aka Miss Manners

It is funny you say that Allen, I have always thought that! =)

Launderess, my dear...TAP,TAP,TAP!! Don't make me get Robert involved (LOL)..seriously, we would all LOVE to see your pic! =)
