Austin ... I think you're right. It has to be from around 1955. Didn't they stop making this style right after 1955? It seems like they added the push buttons for the water temperature and had a center dial around 1956/1957. Is that right?

Ben ... I'm tempted. I was able to work a little on my 101P this weekend and I'm getting excited!! I have to just slow down and finish what I've started. Did you get your light bulb?

The 1955 is on the one that Geoff has, this model on eBay is a 1956 Model as it has they added the delicate cycle. The 1957 Model was the one with the center dial and push buttons.

Geoff - Yes! I picked up a blub at Menard's, per Greg's instruction. The 25w really looks good in the A702 and the A806!

Ben ... can I ask what you paid for your bulb? I paid $2.49 for the one I got (I thought it was a little "spendy").

Not a problem - I think the prices were:

$1.79 for the 15w
$1.99 for the 25w

They were branded Westinghouse. I'll post the PN's here next time I get to Cory's house.

They also have a 12w version in the line-up, and there may have been a 6 or 9, I can't remember. The only difference between the 15w and the 25w was the actual glass portion was physically bigger than the 15w, but it still fits just fine in the housing.

John LeFever has one like this in one of his warehouses I saw in 2002. I too noticed the delicate cycle at the time. Probably 1-speed with this cycle just being very quick.

I know what you mean, Peter!! I LOVE the styling of my 101P. It is unique, isn't it? These were only made for a few years before the center dial.

Robert's original 1949 AMP is also unique with the control dials on the top of the machine.

I like the idea of maintaining a bit of Maytag history. They were quite good machines.

Does anyone know if this delicate cycle is a speed-related thing, or is it just a shorter version of the regular cycle?

I emailed the seller about shipping and/or holding it for pick up in order to have time to plan a short trip (well, not so short at $2.50/gal for gas - thanks George!) and she said it would be no problem.

I assume there were "regular" Maytags at the same time they were making AMP's, so what was the difference and why would a customer buy one over the other?

AMP = Automatic Maytag Pump!!

They also had AM's ... Automatic Maytag ... with a gravity drain.

The AMP style machines were intro'd in 1949, the perforated tub helical drive washers were intro'd in 1958 and the AMP style machines were no longer made after the helical drive style came out.

We found our 102P back in the 80s and have moved it to at least 3 different storage situations, each move involved renting the longest truck we could rent, hiring strong people to help load it and the pickup and needing to make more than one trip. It had to sit on cardboard for years because the tranny was leaking, but that has ceased. The delicate cycle is 18 minutes long; most of that is filling, very short agitation periods. It was Fabric-Matic 101. The Ebay machine is only the second 102P to turn up in a long time, pretty rare among Maytags.
