Picked up a NIB Bamix awhile ago (similar to what is shown in picture) and it has sat sitting on the shelf since. On Wendesday a thought, why not use the thing when making sweet potato pie to mash up the "taters".

Well not "mash" but puree would be a closer description and boy did it! Three pounds of SP in a bowl reduced to a slurry one could feed an infant in <5mins. No muss, no fuss, and clean up was easy.

Now to find more uses for the thing!

Wonderful find! IIRC, that is a two speed model?

I have an M-100 (one speed, 100 Watts) and an M-133 (two speeds, 140 Watts). Although they are a bit underpowered in comparison to other stick blenders, they generally do a good job when making mayonaise, milkshakes and soups. You can chop small quantities of meat too, but I find that rather a hassle.

There are some demo videos on Youtube, including some with Gordon Ramsay.

Velcome to the Bamix family. I've actually found a couple of them over the years, one which still sits on the kitchen counter. I use it to mix my Nestles Quik or protein shakes right in the mug, ensure lump free gravy in the pan and when I make veggie soup in the pressure cooker after it's cooked I give it a whizz to thicken it up a little, works great doing that.
One of their selling points was making a fat free sort of "ice cream" right in the cup.. You put a glass of SKIM MILK only in the freezer for maybe 20 minutes then you can add or not add a little sugar, a few pieces of fruit,, then whizz with the flat round blade and it thickens up to a whip creamed consistency.
I haven't tried it.

I have found

that my hand/stick blender (a Braun,) has its uses, as does a jug blender. I would not want to even try to make a frozen drink with a stick blender. I am happy you found a Bamix, Laundress!!

For a jug blender:

1 14.5/16 ounce can no sugar added pineapple chunks or tidbits, undrained.

1 tall can Coco Lopez or similar cream of coconut. (Use a rubber/silicone scraper to empty the can!)

1 tray's worth of ice cubes, 10-12.

Combine in jug blender till smooth.

Those who may wish to add rum, go ahead, either in the early stages, or individually to taste.

Serves 2-6.

Tolivac, I dont know how you use a 1cup vessel for pureeing in, it'd be hard to get even enough liquid to cover the base and not have it spray out everywhere.

The two main uses I have for mine is whipping cream and in the the 15L stock pot for pureeing soups. I couldnt imagine having to do 1L at a time in the blender.

The Mill is very usefull for small lots of nuts or garlic and herbs, you just have to remember with the old style pictured above that you cant immerse them in water, whereas the new style can be.

Its probably my most versatile kitchen appliance, I get more use from it than anything else.

Cleaning

Just run the business end under the hot water tap, swish about in sudsy hot water, rinse and allow to dry. The small attachments are always done in a well closed sink for fear of them going down the drain.

As for volume again did a huge mixing bowl of cooked sweet potatoes and the Bamix reduced them to puree/slurry quite nicely. Used an up and down mashing movement at frist then got on with things.

Brisnat81-I use the 1 cup container for very small batches of pancake batter.Works well for the 2 pancake quick breakfast-for other pureeing jobs-get out the Vita-Mix or Blendtec. And use another 1 cup container for mixing the cinnamin into the syrup-tastes so good!!After mixing the syrup-heat it in the container-in the microwave.Hot syrup! The cinnamin adds extra "kick" to it-and the REAL maple syrup-not the fake stuff.

I must get around to using my Bamix (an M100), which has been living in 'retirement' since being 'handed down' to me by my parents, some years ago!
It's been in our family for as long as I can remember (over 45 years!).

I was amazed when I stumbled across the Bamix stand a few years ago, at a show, and saw that the new units were identical to the original ones from all those years ago. It just shows they got the original concept right!
My sister-in-law bought one straight away at that show, after seeing a demo, and loves it. :-)
