Needs some knobs, but look at all the bells and whistles on this old dude!
I just love it,but cannot use it at my house. Wonder what this auction price will end up at?

Good gracious that is pristine. Looking at the rest of the range, one wonders what the heck happened with the knobs! There's probably enough of these around that someone could come up with some to make it look and work great again.

I'm not a big fan of gas ranges, even though I have one now in CA and we're getting along ok. But this one, and the vintage Maytag like Greg has been using are among my favorites. I think you have a vintage gas range of some sort too, if memories of pictures past serve.

This is a beautiful range, Denver is only 8 hours away and I have family there...

I doubt I'll go for it, the only reason I would think about it is just look at the tragedy that has befallen my beautiful Maytag. I couldn't even look at the range for days afterward!

Sorry to hear about this tragedy

What happened Greg?

That can be filled in and touched up though. If you take your time,no one else would ever notice it. But I know how you must feel. *The owner will always know it's there* That is how things like this effect me. The pain does "dull" with time however. The sooner you get to work on that, the better you will feel about it. (: Best of luck with that repair.

I think Don (a club member who has one of these ranges) explained to me that you could store crackers and things of this nature in there to keep them crisp (a cool, dry place type thing, maybe)? Then too it was probably handy back in the day when kitchens didn't have as much storage space.

Wow, someone took very good care of that stove. It's among my favorite designs. Lots of bells and whistles. I hope that someone is able to save it.

Mike

These drawers if I remember correctly had little silica packets to absorb moisture. When they turned pink you put them in the oven to dry them out. When they turned back to blue I believe then they were ready to go back in the "Crisp Chest" until they had absorbed more moisture, etc.,etc.

crisp chest

I have this stove in the electric version, complete with crisp chest etc. The crisp chest has some sort of nuclear moisture absorbing material in the top of it - when it changes colours, you take it out and dry it in the oven! Only slightly scarey... The other two drawers are just for storage and very handy.

Wonderful Tappan Find!

That is one beautiful stove! The Mister was even impressed! He said he wished we had a 5,000 square foot home so that we could have a stove in every corner!

I sure hope someone saves this beauty!!! If it was in Texas, I might be driven to do something foolish! ;-)

crisp chest undone

and the whole unit that you're supposed to bake at 350 until it turns blue. And no, I don't.... (sorry for the bad pic quality, camera issues)

Love the photos John! Your kitchen is awesome, and my favourite style! Where did you find the jadite clock?
Thank you for posting those!
