Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Frigidaire Custom Imperial

Wow! The 40" range looks quite similar to the 1969 we had EXCEPT that ours did not have equal ovens. Instead, a wider self-cleaning one on the right, and a smaller, non s-c on the left. So, I have to assume this must be a year or 2 earlier...

Anyone know when manufacturers veered towards big oven/small oven on their 40" ranges? Flairs always had the unequal split, correct?

Nice stoves Eddie we had the Litton with an eye level microwave. Not this combination type. It was the best oven we ever had. Super insulated. alr

Some Cool Ranges Eddie

Thanks for posting them, the first WH 40" range is the exact range that my Grandmother had, I spent many hours helping her can vegetables on it in the summers, I would try to get it if closer or less expensive.

The Litton range was a cool idea that actually worked. I worked for a Litton service company in 1978 when these were in there heyday, the only bad thing is that Litton built the whole range them selves and they had lots of problems. I actually have one of these at the museum that not only has the combination oven but also has a 2nd MW oven over the range, it is the only range ever built that had TWO MW ovens in one product.

Combo52 Did the large oven with MW work well as a microwave or was it mainly to speed along conventional baking? alr

We always wanted one of those Litton stoves. But at the time they were either too expensive or we were living in rental housing which already had a stove.

Did GE make stoves for Sears? This house we are in now (1994 build) came with Kenmore appliances and if you take the timer out of that gold GE and also take away the P7 self clean oven and replace with a conventional non self cleaner, you'd have the stove that came with this house. Instead of gold ours was Almond. But the similarities are striking. It was a half way decent stove, but before we acquired it someone had a oven fire in it and the heat melted all the decals on the back control panel. We are much happier with the Maytag we have.

Litton Combination Ranges

Air [ ? I don't know what your name is ] the Litton combo ovens only had a 500 watt MW oven in a day when most MWs were 650 watts, so they were a little slower if used on their own, yet I think that most people used either the MW or the oven conventionality. The engineers that designed these ranges knew that 500 Ws was more than enough power when using MWs with conventional heat, full powered combination ovens like these can cook almost anything in 1/2 the time and in some cases 4 times as fast all while producing Better tasting and looking food as compared to doing it the old fashioned slow way.

Alan there were very few [ or no ] Kenmore branded Electric ranges that were real GE ranges like the yellow one pictured. most KM ranges were made by Roper and they did as you said look a lot like the pictured GE but that is where the similarity ended. And the GE P-7 range pictured [ unlike the Roper built KMs ] is likely a better range than any electric range that ever wore the Maytag name in construction quality.

Combo52, Thanks for the info. I never used a regular oven with MW assist. I had no idea if it worked well or not. Thanks again. Arthur

We had a P7 double wall oven in our last house and that was the best oven we ever owned. Fast heat up and rock steady temps with a fantastic cleaning system.

The Maytag we own is a gas convection oven style. It works fine.

The reason I mentioned the Kenmore/GE similarity was the styling on the Kenmore we had was spot on with that GE pictured above. Same drawer handles, trim strips and even the back panel by the burners were the same. It was an electric stove. I am sure GE had the better build. The Kenmore we had felt rather flimsy.
