I picked up a classic this morning- while dumpster diving. Of course I only weigh @ 138 lbs (skinny little thing), but I got it in the back of my Chevy wagon, which is also a classic & can hold appliances, so I guess I should hang onto it for awhile. It's a washer I've been looking for....I'm so excited,
I hope can be helped. The matching dryer was there too. Looked like it fell off a truck though. Any guesses? It's really not that rare yet though.

If it were a Philco, I'd be wetting my pants!
Actually, the humidity was about 100% & then it started to rain, so it was slippery getting it into my car, but I wrestled it in!

I was pretty wet when I got home- looked like a drowned rat.
First I had to bail out about 3" of water from the washer. It was wedged under a dishwasher & behind a stove. It was at the inside end of a long dumpster, in between a row of refrigerators & WCI junk & the drain spout was stuck behind the hose inlets of the other machines, and I had about 1 inch to play until I got it free
.....AND THEN THAT BABY WAS MINE!

LOLOLOLOLOLO !!!

did you ever get the feeling maybe you should end this thread and start anew? LOL

So far it sounds like the most misinformed disgusting, run of bad luck. LOLOL.

I truly hope you found SOMETHING !

IT sounds funny though so maybe this thread is worth it.

Seriously though, there is nothing wrong with "dumpster hopping" but I don't think one should admit to doing it, let alone discuss the details. I think perhaps there must be another blog just for that.

I hope no one actually wet themselves. LOLOLOLOL

Oh Jerry!

According to your "Favorite Vintage Machines" - You say Frigidaire and Philco! So then you say finally got one, has the be the 1-18!

Let us know!

My new/old 1-18

Well, here's a quick update. She's been sitting in the garage for a few days, and I've started to clean her up. Not really in bad shape, the cabinet has a few chips & small rust spots (really small). The front looks like detergent/bleach streaked down it or someone spent time rubbing up against it getting stuff into the dryer. There's no rust, dings or anything inside the tub. The filter, pulsator cap & bleach dispenser are all intact, but looked like no one has cleaned them in years. The control panel has 4 knobs instead of 5 and there are some small paint splatters on it.

...continued...

The agitator is intact, but there are 2 or 3 chunks out of it. Did they wash a tent or chains in it? I've been cleaning it up before work, so it is good therapy. It's great opening the door and having something so familliar there...from my teenage years anyway

YAY for 1-18s!

Congrats Jerry! You'll be having a lot of fun with this machine...I know I am!

I think Dave might still have a Jetcone agitator in stock on eBay if you need to replace yours. Not 100% positive though...check his "Store".

Okay this thread is from the Club in the parallel Universe!

Robert is hoorayying over a 1-18?? HELLOOOOOOO OUT THERE for him transistors have not been invented yet!

As to a Philco Blades of Water machine -- KEEP DREAMING GREG!
And why is gansky oogling afrter Philco when he is a dyed in the wool Maytag guy stoves and all!

Those two facts PROVE this is a thread from the parallel universe!

Jerry congratulations on your find!

You had me in pins and needles its fun dumpster diving!

The Jetcone is cracked because the bed of nails filter pan popped out in spin between wash & rinse and fell into the tub and that is how the Jetcone got cracked.
Jerry you'll need to shore up the gripper thingy up under the sub top that holds the filter in before you run a new agitator in it.
I have extra knobs if you need one for the control panel, let me know.

Jet
