36" Gas Hi-Low Range

Hi Robert, I guess you are kidding about wanting a Summit or Danby range, but you are about right that this O&M is not much of a range, when this thing is crushed and made into a new Kia no one will ever miss it except Southern Cal Gas Co when its four constant burning pilots are turned off for good.

By the 1970s there were not many great gas ranges left, all the serious money was on electric ranges by the time.

I rather like it.

But then I liked the 70's. Sure, it's before the home gourmet kitchen era. Smallish burners. Griddle, but standing pilot lights still. Looks to be made by Tappan O'keefe. It can be/could have been fitted with a rotisserie. Thermador color oven porcelain. Neither continuous nor self clean. Here, it would be snapped up for a basement or garage kitchen. Many of our newer Chaldean citizens from Iraq cook in the gargae in summer. Keeps the indoor kitchen cooler. The range must be elevated 18 inches above the floor by code. That means no ducking under the upper oven. You have an enclave in San Diego as well.

The best!

Burners ever thought up, Those are Tappan designed Sizzle/Simmer burners, the flame comes out in a continuous sheet around the burner, Very high output but can be turned down to a bare simmer, This would go in my kitchen for sure

It would look a whole lot better without that oven on top.

The ovens do appear to have removable Continuous Clean panels on the side walls and back.

I remember friends that had a Tappan gas stove with these silly burners, as they aged they burned very unevenly with much of the flame on one side.

The advantage that Tappan was trying for was to get away from the user having to clean all the little holes that get clogged when you have a spill-over, the chrome cap just lifted off to make cleaning easy.

Well it didn't not pan out well and Tappan went back to multi-port burners that worked much better and the rest is history.
