Just wondering if there is or are any A/C sites like this one for people into old A/C units. I have an old Chrysler Airtemp(H07-91) 6500 BTUs. Bought in 1971. Still works. Does anyone collect old A/Cs ?
I would love to find some early GE zone-line thru-wall or window units with the spine-fin coils on them, especially of the heat-pump variety. I also wouldn't mind finding a GM-Frigidaire air conditioner either!
The GE's used to be all over the place and were really popular not only in homes but in hotels and businesses too. Frigidaire window units however I remember were a bit rare. I imagine because they were pricey, high-end models (pricey enough that I imagine most folks would just go with an installed system instead)
Here's a 1949 Philco A/C unit for sale via crags list. It would most likely need the refrigerant evacuated (if any still exists) and new hoses, seals, and a recharge to work effectively and reliably.
If it has a hermetically sealed system, there's probably not much really that needs to be done to it! I would however re-lube all the motors, give it a thorough cleaning, and inspect all the wiring for fraying/corrosion before turning it on though....that looks a nice piece. I hope someone saves it!!! (a bit too far for me to travel to!)
