Why were old Combos, like that by Whirlpool it seems, so complex? How did GE's combo compare?

My understanding from other posts here, is that Bendix had a nearly insurmountable arsenal of patents on washer/dryer combo designs, operation, and mechanisms.
So if any other company wanted to make one, they either had to pay numerous licensing fees to Bendix, produce a less-capable / less-refined machine, or they had to come up with very complex designs of their own to address or solve the necessary issues without infringing on the Bendix patents.

thats a no brainer for anyone....
you really got to visit his warehouse, where there is an upstairs kitchen loaded with every appliance possible, where else could you bake 12+ humble pies all at the same time!

Was the Bendix design Superior? Simpler? I read the same searching posts.
I'd love to visit his warehouse! Some personal advice for John: Get few 208-120/240 transformers in that building. Or a high leg delta service if the local POCO will allow it lol. 240 really does makes things better, and no need to modify anything like the extra heater in the combo.

I'm not really familiar with any of these machines, but my understanding from reading here over the years is that Bendix patents particularly covered suspension of the drum, so no other combos could offer drum suspension. This limited the rival combos to either bolt down installation or a miserably slow spin speed.
How fast did the Bendix Spin? Any pics?
