Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I would say early to mid 1970's at the latest.  Would love to get my hands on some Axion.  It's a great stain pre-treater.

Axion

I know for a fact, Axion was introduced in 1968. I worked at a grocery store at the time and we could not keep it on the shelf when it came out. There was no other product like it at the time.

In my head, I'm seeing all three Ax, Dft, Dyn arrive in the mid-60's. All were beloved.

Chorus: "The little blue jug is DYN-a- MO."

My Mom used Axion religiously once she had cloth diapers to wash starting in 1969, and then toddler clothing.  It was used in combination with Oxydol, and original formula Downy.

One way to tell how old something is...

...is by looking for the company's address on the label. Zip codes started around '63 and I believe were required by '67. Earlier addresses either had a one or two digit zone or none at all for small towns.

Question

Can you actually use old detergents and products like these or do they break down and loose thier strength and fragrance over time?

My Mom always used "Snowy Bleach" and sometimes "Biz"

Sure you can. A lot of people have posted on here that they've had good results with 40-50 year old detergents, including me.

Are they exactly as good as new? Do enzymes that age still have any cleaning power? I'm not an expert and will leave that for others to debate.
