G’day Brothers and Sisters …

I accidentally found this forum after researching for some information on my Methusela top load GE washing machine. To my delight I have found the forum very informative.

I have had this machine for some 25 years and have used it for spin-drying only for the last 10 years owing to the fact that the tap water in my neck of the woods is loaded with Iron …I just hand wash with rain water, spin dry and hang my few ‘threads’ out where it’s 96 degrees in the shade.

The outer tub is metal and developed a rusty hole where the circulating hose from the pump is attached. All other systems on Methusela are fine and I am wondering if I cap the circulating port of the pump and seal the hole on the tub with fiberglass whether it would damage the pump . My reasoning is that since the appliance is neither used for washing or rinsing, capping that port of the pump would make no difference. Please advise this old dude and be Blessed.

blocking off the filter section of the pump will be ok-the hole could be fixed with fiberglass,or a piece of thick plastic stuck in place with silicone rubber also works good
