Anyone ever see this old movie with Jerry Lewis, Agnes Moorhead and I forget the others, its a comedy and it shows a department store with sunny yellow and turquoise washer and dryer sets and the "chrome" everywhere abounds .......... its a cool, colorful movie set ....... I can only imagine how neat it was in some of those old stores back then with all that shiny chrome and porcelain and all those bright fifties colors ........... that time came and went to quickly.

Greg, that is like one of my favorite movies ever! I have a VHS copy of it, I don't know if it ever has come out on DVD.
I think i saw part of that once. Were there turquoise WP washers on the floor? If this is the same movie.

I remember seeing a rotisserie Barbecue grill in that movie. Don't they show stereos as well in there?

I very vaguely remember a 60's movie that had a kooky lady in it (Lucille Ball? Phylis Diller?) and a remote control vacuum that came out of a panel in the wall and chased said kooky lady around. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

There is also a movie with Groucho Marx and rebadged Frigidaire washers with the space capsule shaped agitators. He either sells them or owns the company that makes them and is on the sales floor trying to sell them. I only caught a bit of this on some cable channel in the early days of cable when all sorts of things were shown and programming notes were non-existant.

Yes, the wonderful Hoover model 68, (quite rare I might add in Aqua Blue and Pearl White colors), goes amok in the hands of Jerry Lewis and pulls a woman's girdle off and sucks it into the bag along with quite a laundry list of other items too!
Going into that poor Hoover's bag were toasters, a fish bowl with live fish, the fur off the owner of the 68's mink stole, other appliances, clothing, at least 2 wigs, plates, cups and saucers, a cardboard display, etc.
For us vacuum folk, it is one of the most beloved scences in a movie and truly hilarious. I wonder what became of the original 68 used in the film? Maybe it will end up on ebay someday.
Babs Streisand pushed a Kirby Classic III around in the film, "The Main Event." Probably the only time in her life she has ever used a vacuum. In, "All That Heaven Allows", Jane Wyman's housekeeper is seen using a blue Lewyt big wheel for a few moments before Agnes Moorehead slams the door closed.
I think vacuums were seen in a lot more TV shows than in movies. My favorites were when Samatha Stevens Hoover Dial-A-Matics were bewitched and vacuumed on their own. Great show with good taste in vacuums!

Speaking of appliances in movies, did any one happen to watch the mid-'60's movie "Your's, Mine, and Our's" on TMC last night @ 8pm eastern, 7pm central time? It starred Henry Fonda & Lucille Ball. Towards the end of the show there is a scene in the basement laundry room, and there is what seems to be an endless row of mid-'60's Maytag washers. What I wouldn't give for one of those babies.

It was great to see that film again. I have it on video and there are great car shots too. The basement laundry room scene is filled with Maytags and great shots.
Sad that Hollywood is "rehashing" that film. What were they thinking when they decided to remake a classic like that with Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda? The reviews of the new film are disasterous..........much like "Bewitched."
Someday maybe Hollywood will learn!
