I have something similar, but it has a 5-pointed star shaped burner.

Can this type of thing be hooked up to a propane tank if connected via your average gas grill type of flexible hose with a modulator?

yes, with caution, and you might have to adjust the venturi if thats the correct term (the air intake/mix). in high school shop my brother made a fish cooker, shrimp boiler with the bottom of a discarded gas water heater, of course his instructor offered guidance. I was leary at first, It works beautifully.

Thanks, I may try mine out during the upcoming outdoor cooking season. It's been a prop for years so maybe it's time to see what it can do.

Sort of reminds me of the high output big wok cookers I've seen at asian restaurant supply houses... big old cast iron affairs, with simple on-off valving. I was tempted... but didn't really want to set the patio on fire... lol...

As a child remember a two burner version gas hotplate like the one shown in my Grandfathers summer cabin. We used it during our summer stays-to bake-had to use our Grandmothers stove.I beleive the hotplate in the cabin ran from propane.Of course-us kids weren't to mess with it.The cabin also had a Serval gas fridge.Don't know what has happened to those appliances-haven't seen them since I was little.-or to that cabin for that matter.
