I've had this for 15 years and what ever was under the freezer was gone. I made a drawer just to keep the cold up and for defrosting to catch water and ice. I'm thinking there might have been a tighter fit plate under the coils to keep it colder in the freezer section? Any pics or thoughts appreciated so I can keep ice cream solid. Bill

I've seen various refrigerators that have the tray underneath, and some have trays with an extra flap to keep the freezer section colder if necessary.

Someone here who knows Philcos may be able to provide information on what type yours had and what it looked like.

Thanks, I'm sure someone has something like it. The only thing I did when i removed it from a rental cause they wouldn't defrost was to paint the plastic and replaced the overload clicker spring on compressor and then put some silicone glue on the door seal thats quite hard.

Might be right GoatF, if i put ice cream in there i put it next to the sides and turn up the thermo from 1 to 3 or 4 and its better, also cookies and cream stays better than plain ice cream? ;) Shouldn't have it anyway

The one I had just had a clear plastic/acrylic tray, the lip only came up halfway to the freezer, leaving a gap. But, about 1/3 of the tray on the side by the door hinge came up nearly to the freezer, had a flip top you could open after sliding it out, and was labelled as meat storage.

The tray is a good spot to put meats or other items you want extra cold or slightly but not completely frozen. Also a good spot to rapid chill beer or soda.

One last hint for defrosting. Leave the water in the tray, turn the fridge back on. The next day, it will be frozen, so you can remove it without fear of spills. Just put the tray of ice in the bathtub or on the porch, to melt.

Sounds interesting, now would help to see a pic so i can make it just right. nice idea to keep meats. I see, theres pins and try slides on bottom 4 & the top ones are a little more than 3 inchs above. This try I made is 3" on sides and back but made it higher in front to help keep it cool and looks.
