Old Speed Queen washer Fluid drive

The guy who I got my Frigidaire Jet-cone has a old Speed-Queen that says fluid drive on it.His daughter is there for the next two

weeks and knows nothing about washers.I have never used a Speed-Queen they were rare around here like my Jet-cone.

It is sold I do know that cause I wanted to buy it for 120$ but, they have another one that he is working on.

I was wondering if these are any good should I get it?This is a 1960s/70s washer I think its probably a late 60s it has a light

and buttons on it.I have never heard of a fluid drive washer is this the same as my Honda Atv and are tractor a Hydrostatic

transmission?Do they wash good if it is worth getting.I took a pic but something happened there is nothing there

Late Hanukkah present, Speed Queen Solid Tub

I pick it up tomorrow! The seller says it works, the mismatched dryer died and she convinced her husband to buy a matched set. It looks relatively BOL, the color doesn't concern me at all, 2 cycles and one temp knob.

Fluid Drive

Speed Queen used a Fluid Drive to spin the tub for decades, it's a soft and easy way to absorb the strain of starting to turn that full tub of clothes and water. It's a typ of clutch. Agitation is done thru a normal transmission, not thru the Fluid Drive.

I'm a recent convert to solid tubs, fun as hell, very different from perf tubs. If you have a chance at a decent unit, decent price, take it.

Is your Frigidaire Jet-Cone a 1-18 from the 70's? Or a 60's model with solid tub?

had the famous Arc-Cuate transmission that was used for years, right up until 1980 when Raytheon bought them from Mcgraw Edison.

You should also have cheap water, cheap water heating and not have it drain into a septic tank. It makes wonderful sounds.

What model year did SQ change from the solenoid operated spin to the reversing motor spin?  Was it 1970-ish?

My Frigidaire is a 76 I think,he rebuilds washers and uses parts from one that works to fix another and sells them.

He is damn good to.It's like a salvage yard but for washers people bring the old one and he will knock off such and such

if it's one he want's.This Speed Queen was in mint shape for it's age.I have never had one but he  likes rare old

ones from the 60s to 80s just like I do and he is busy as hell all the time.Nobody likes these new washers that make it

about 4 years with a family unlike they used to and then are broke.He has brand new Front-loaders but can't give them away.

Yes power and water is pretty cheap around here compared to everywhere else.I guess I will get it the Speed Queen

that is when he gets back.

That is a great machine- fluid drive is BOSS, it means it was a Beam design machine and is very collectible!
