Obviously I have no life, since it's 2:40 AM on Sunday and I am trolling YouTube for interesting stuff. As I trolled, I wondered if the old Suzy Homemaker line of toys from the 60's had any commercials that had survived.... well at least two did.

Although the oven gets the lion's share of the ad, the washer gets a cameo... but it's the "Jr. Miss" version that is Barbie Doll sized and only agitates... not the three function "El Grande" version we all know and love.

Thanks for the Suzy H link. I was hoping to find the classic sing-along commercial for the washer ("Suzy Homemaker, Suzy Homemaker, how do you wash your clothes?") but it wasn't there.

And Scoots, it's a benefit of the single life that we can be up trolling YouTube at 2 :30 a.m.!!

Suzy Homemaker, Suzy Homemaker, how do you wash your clothes

I remember that song like it was yesterday. And it took three years of begging before my parent finally broke down and bought me the Suzy Homemaker washer in 1970. My father told his friends that I liked it for the gears and mechanics underneath, of course we all know that's not why I really liked it.

I wanted the Suzy Homemaker Hair Dryer as well, but thought it was best that I didn't push my luck.

Prototype Oven?

I vividly remember the "Suzy Homemaker, Suzy Homemaker" song too. I used to sing it as I endlessly washed the same white socks over and over and over ... but it was 1966 and "D" cells, like gasoline, were plentiful and cheap.

What did surprize me is the oven unit in the first commerical is missing a ton of detailing (no oven window, simplfied moldings etc.) I am wondering if the commercial was shot using a prototype oven because the production units were not yet available. As a matter of fact, the oven hardly gets shown off at all ... it's all cake.

I used to pine for this...

Wanted everything in the line but never got a single item. My aunt bought me a kitchen set which consisted of a range, refrigerator, and sink. One day, I decided to put some ice cubes into the "freezer" section of the refrigerator. Because the entire set was made of heavy cardboard, the melted ice cause the refrigerator to completely collapse. Being so young, I didn't think about that possibility, and so that was the end of that. It's kind of funny when I think about it now.

No more kiddie cakes!

The Superoven is here!

Nope, that's just what it looks like--I have one MIB. It doesn't use lightbulbs to heat and since it handles such big pans, it must get hotter than the bulb-powered ones. Guess that's why they took the window out of the door.
