Are there any groups in the UK for people that are interested in old appliances, such as washing machines?

I have always been interested in old appliances, I grew up in New Zealand, some of the appliances at that time were imported from the UK. I have always thought it would be interesting to meet people that are interested in old appliances. It seems there are groups that get together in the US and view various collections of old appliances, perhaps there is this sort of thing in the UK.

Welcome aboard

As Rob says above a fair number (although not all) hang out here or perhaps over in vacuumland (link on the AW homepage). And I think it is fair to say that we are scattered from one end of the UK to the other.

Check out the threads here, in "Deluxe" and "Super" (and dont forget the search facility on the top right of every forum) and you will find lots of British stuff. And dont be afraid to ask, there is a large fund of collective knowledge here

Welcome

Hi Whiteway

You'll find most information about UK appliances here. Do a search for AEI Hotpoint or AEI Gala and you might recognise the 1500 series washer - it was licensed to Fisher & Paykel in the 1960s by AEI (Hotpoint's parent company - NZ machines will have AEI Gala on the rating plate), and sold as Kelvinator and Savaday over there - possibly as Whiteway too IIRC...enjoy!

This thread and forum are an interesting read, I'm from the UK too! I need some old appliances, any advice on obtaining them? I can get old TV's and audio equipment no problem, but washers and driers seem to be pretty hard to come by... advice appreciated ^.^
