Toshiba Electronic Oven

I got this a couple of years ago from Ebay - only paid 99p! The previous owner apparently paid £110 for it at auction in 1974.

It's huge, weighs 35kg! It's lived in my mum's garage since I bought it though, I wouldn't want to scrap it so if anyone has a good home for it I'd gladly donate it!

Jackson Hallmark

Rob

The Hallmark was a fairly basic but popular cooker in the late 1960s - 4 plates, 2 x 7" and 2 x 6" with grill (broiler) in a top cavity and conventional oven below. 21" x 21". There was a later double oven version with different control panel and this model MAY have been the Hoover cooker (badged for Hoover). In Northern Ireland, where I grew up, there was no natural gas only town gas or bottled (propane) gas so electric cookers were more popular than in England/Scotland/Wales.

The fridge is Hoover badged Zanussi, Kenwood Mini mixer & blender (just visible), Russell Hobbs kettle, stacked Philips washer & dryer in the corner. The Philips dishwaher can be seen under teh tea towel.

A bit later on

The last picture was probably taken mid- 1981, this is a couple of months later after getting the microwave - Moffat.
I had a change around and swopped around the washer/dryer and dishwasher. The orange strip on the bottom on the M/wave was actually three buttons which illuminated when selected.

The RH kettle had given up the ghost and had been replaced by a Redring Autoboil, the Kenwood Mini by a Sunbeam Mixmaster X24, the Morphy Richards toaster was in the last picture, just not visible. The white box to the left of the fridge was an Electrolux freezer, again not visible in the last picture. And yes, that is a Tefal toasted Sandwich maker on top of teh microwave

Tefal Sandwich Toaster?

Thats the blighter that made me many a toastie as a nipper and many a waffle.

Mum had one I presume as a wedding present in 1982 although she was lucky in that the gift giver also bought her the optional extra griddle plates although they were never used.

Last week Paul and myself were scouring charity shops and what should we find!

RRP was £25 back then - bargain to be had for todays current price of £5

Jackson,

Well I have never seen one of those before even one badged as Hoover.

Interesting about Irelands gas situation and the larger market for electric cookers. Crewe still seems to be using gas cookers in the abundance we always seemed to have had. The local appliance stores even carry quite a heavy selection of gas compared to electric.

There even seems a resistance to built in. Most folk I know refuse the built in stuff and would rather have slot ins.

Wonderful. Thank you for posting those small appliances and that vintage set of kitchen pics! What a great catch from a car-boot sale! We'd say it "fell off the back of a truck (lorrie), undamaged"!

Here, Tefal is known as T-Fal. And Dannone youghurt is known as Dannon. Apparently, French pronunciation and spelling is kept away from us. HA!

Mother Toggles was given a set of gray "T-fal" pots and pans. They wre alumin(i)um with non-stick coating on the inside and painted on the outside. The did not last more than a few years and were put out in the trash, never to be seen or heard-from again.

Anyhoo, I love seeing kitchens and heating/eklectrical systems from abroad. So different than our own.

Simon, that Toshiba is very similar to the one I had back in 75 except mine moved the controls (about the same) over to the right side and put on a side swinging door. Otherwise thats the look of it and its like the Radarange very heavy all metal construction.

Tefal Sandwich Maker

Rob
To be honest I never knew that the sandwich maker had waffle plates, when I got mine it was sandwich and grill plates - a bit like an early George Foreman grill. I never used it that much as I got a bit fed up with scalding hot sandwich filling waiting the catch me out on the first bite.

I dont think I dare "do" the car boot sales, its hard enough accomodating what I have buying on ebay, although of course there are treasures for the sharp eyed collector :)

I am trying to remember if it was Tefal or rowenta who introduced the first "Long Slot" toaster .....

I have been very impresssed with Tefal irons, I have a conventional one in the loft (bought in 1992 and still working - it has a cartridge arrangement which was supposed to soften the water) but I replaced it with a Tefal Compact Steam Generator which helps make the ironing much easier - ironing is one job I HATE!
