Unless I'm mistaken, the little blue flame logo on the door latch indicates the dryer runs on gas!

But with a $500 starting bid, I'm sitting this one out.
I'm a little suspicious that the seller doesn't list their location other than the state. California is a huge state, and some people might be more interested in this item if they knew they could drive a truck and pick it up personally rather than go to all the bother and expense of shipping.

OK folks, lemme tell ya somethin' right now. I have seen several of these WP Combos, but this is the only one that approaches the features the comparable Lzdy Kenmore had.
Every WP version I have ever seen only had timed dry. Either this was a more deluxe model that came out in 1958, like Roberts, OR, this is a model that was offered later on in the run before WP changed to the slightly narrower cabinet. I venture to guess this has auto timed bleach and softner dispensers just like the LK. This also has a nice fluorescent light on the control panel. And a big thing the LK had all other WPs I have seen didn't--AUTO DRY cycles. So, in my estimation this is a pretty rare version of WP combo. DON'T LET THIS SLIP AWAY!!! I'd always liked the WP Combos, but kinda pooh poohed them because I'd only seen LK versions of this and the LK had much better features.

Think there are many members whom would be interested, however logistics and the weight of the item dictate a local bidder. Mind you anyone from the Mid-west/South could make the road trip to CA if they really wished to own this rare piece of history.
I for one would be too worried about hiring just any freight/trucking company to pick-up and deliver this item, that is if one could even find one willing to tackle this behemoth.
Think the sellers are people who purchase contents of storage bins/rooms for resale, keeping choice items for their own collection. Really would like to know the history behind this item; I mean who put it into storage and where did it come from? Would be icing on the cake of the original owner's manual was included.
Really do hope a member or at least a collector of vintage applinaces nabs this beauty. Would hate for some dilettante "collector" of vintage items or worse to purchase the unit, not knowing anything about restoring/using and maintaining vintage appliances, only to kill the poor dear.

I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford a house here unless something happens I don't know about, but if I ever do car(s) will be outside, and the garage will be a laundry studio!!
There's a darling 2 BR pink stucco rambler with attached double garage directly across the street, that I can enjoy the view of from our courtyard. It was listed at $847,000, and was vacant and for sale for sometime. Someone finally bought it and moved in but I don't know if they paid that.

Some people make a living from bidding on the contents of abandoned storage units, and then selling off those items have have resale value. The tricky part is having enough storage space elsewhere to store the stuff, and of course having the ability to transport all the contents. Pianos etc might present a special challenge, I imagine!
Lawdy! I just look a this. Wow! It has a pushbutton programmed timer for the washer side. The instructions say to pull the timer knob, press the desired wash cycle button, turn the timer until it stops, then push in.
And it's pink. Brenda would freak if I show this to her.

Don't know about elsewhere in the country, but to be in on the storage auction game around here, you have to be ready to run with the big dogs. As Dadoes stated, people make a living at this and if you don't know what you are doing can step on a few toes, and or get yourself in too deep. That is bidding too much on junk you cannot unload to cover costs.
Sellers of this item obviously have done some homework, hence their opening bid.
Am intrigued on how a gas combo washer/dryer worked. Must have been a nightmare to repair.

I had this gas model briefly, but the electric ignition developed a problem and it was not worth fixing at that time when I did not have the space to even leave it connected. It is from the last year before they redesigned the combo to the more modern 29 inch wide cabinet. There is very little about this combo that is different from the earlier models other than the control panel changes and putting the dryer on a separate control which they needed for auto dry, but Kenmore had that feature earlier. There are actually 2 fluorescent tubes in the control panel, the big full width one and the smaller one beside the controls. This model could not have seen much use. The area around the door gasket looks too good for that. If anyone is interested in purchasing this, he or she should request a picture with the service door open and the area well lighted to see if there are any detergent trails from leaks. Also ask for a picture of the tank (left side) next to the burner. This is the first place the porcelain failed due to exposure to the intense heat radiating from the burner cone during the long drying times. For a beginning bid of $500.00 you should have a pretty good idea of what you are trying to buy. Anyone moving the combo will not have to worry about protecting a suspension.
The funny thing is that after the smaller cabinet models came out, the Kenmore combos and the tol WP Ultimatic had the lock stop buttons and the single dial control with auto dry only. There were some lower in the line WP models which we have only seen in service literature that kept the two dial controls, but the redesigned combos were not marketed by WP for long.
