TV rots the brain

Exactly! The quality of programming has hit fertilizer stage and is responsible for the brain rot that has set in around the world.

I got rid of cable years ago, hire dvds for the films I want to watch and spend very little time watching anything else.

To me, modern television = noise and visual pollution that is dangerour to one's mental wellbeing and upsets the harmony in my personal space.

I had cable installed 3 years ago -

& told them to turn it off & take it away 2 month`s after they turned it on.

I had no idea it had gotten that bad.

I watch all my vintage tv favorites on U-Tube now days such as

1. Leave it to beaver
2. I love Lucy
3. The waltons
4. All in the family
& the list goes on .

U-Tube has all the great tv shows I love & remember & its all free.

why not replace Oprah...

Can I choose 'neither of these please?

Why not replace Oprah with instructional television giving people "life survival" skills?

How to balance a checkbook.
How to do simple repairs around the house
How to plan a balanced meal, cook it and 'eat cheap'
Oh yes, and how about things on 'let's talk about how to read and write'
etc.

Of course, this would never sell.

I sometimes catch the late night reruns of Oprah, unintentionally, of course.

I can't say I really care if the show comes or goes, or who replaces Oprah. Oprah strikes me as a very nosy and persistent woman who manages to stay neutral on any really controversial subject and not alienate her guests. The perfect TV talk show host. I don't think Rosie O'Donnell would fit the bill - too controversial. But who knows? It's not like I'll be watching (intentionally) anyway.

I understand Conan is out of work...
